The whole hookup between Leon and Delaney & Bonnie and Eric, George and all the British rockers in '69'-'71 is one of the greatest, most musically fertile eras in rock history, not only for the music, but also for the drama. Delaney & Bonnie & Friends on Tour with Eric Clapton, EC's first solo album, George's All Things Must Pass, Dave Mason's "Alone Together," Mad Dogs, Derek & The Dominos...volumes upon volumes have been written.

Joe had just done his great performance at Woodstock with the Grease band with whom he parted ways right after. Problem was Joe had a contract to tour a certain number of dates but he had no band. Leon Russel got word of this and came to the rescue. lining up musicians and singers at the drop of a hat . They started rehearsal and called themselves the Mad Dogs And Englishmen and someone, to our pleasure, decided to film the whole thing. Do you mean the woman at 2:30? That's Pamela Polland, one of several backup singers Leon Russell recruited for the band (the others were Rita Coolidge - the original "Delta Lady" - and Claudia Lennear - the "Brown Sugar" the Rolling Stones wrote about). She surely is gorgeous. She was on the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour and is featured at several points in the movie made from it. She wrote a number of hits for other artists and recorded some of her own stuff; she put out a first album, then recorded a second with an all-star set of backing musicians that was widely said to be fantastic, but the tapes got hung up in a record-company buyout shuffle and were not released for over 40 years. She later developed a cabaret act under the name "Melba Rounds". She now lives in Hawaii, does Hawaiian-style pop music and vocal coaching. Absolutely great, but missed out on stardom.

reply to baler johnson Cocker is the man that gave Leon his first commercial success. Joe recorded Delta Lady and that is what helped make leon a household name. They were there for each other. Delta Lady by Joe brought them both fame. just sayin'
