When Cocker died, McCartney said this version was “mind-blowing” and was forever grateful for turning the song into a soul anthem. When it was first released, Lennon and McCartney sent him a telegram of thanks and congratulations, and took out an ad in the papers thanking him. Cocker was backed up by an all-star band in the recording.

Respect for the camera crew at Woodstock, especially the one that decided to shoot Cocker with that bright-but-overcast sky behind him. It gave him an even greater manic, gloriously possessed appearance, like he was standing on the bow of a ship on its way to harpoon Moby-Dick himself.

When I watch these videos from my teens/20s, I'm still AMAZED at how great the music was in the late 60s and the 70s. The music reflected the times, and the changes that were happening in the world. Can't tell you how happy I am about you hearing these tunes and passing them on to your generation and younger generations. Seeing you respond to the music exactly like I did shows that a good song will always be a good song. You point out how Joe Cocker feels the music within his entire body. He's not acting, he's feeling every note. He was known for letting himself go and feeling every note. Thanks my brother for helping to keep these tunes alive. You might also like another song he does called 'So Happy to be Standing Here Today'. Listen to the version that shows different pics of sunsets. Also a tune called 'You Can Leave your Hat On'. The version that shows a woman dancing and teasing a guy as he watches. Lastly, for now, a song called 'Sandpaper Cadillac. You will like them all. I give you my word. Great job, keep it going.

More Joe Cocker suggestions: "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window," and "Something." Funny story with those two songs. As the story goes, Paul McCartney was so imppressed with Joe's rendition of "With Alittle Help From My Friends" that back stage at one of Joe's concerts he gave him "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window." The Goerge Harrison snuck-up as Paul walked away, and gave him "Something." The other Beatles knew nothing of it until Joe released it. Next thing you know "Something" is on the Beatles album Abby Road. Actually, if your not familiar with the Beatles versions I suggest them too. Great video!

Like you said, bro, you feel his music in your veins! I am a musician, a drummer, and I have played to and listened to thousands upon thousands of songs all my life. But this is one song I could listen to ALL DAY LONG! This is one of the few Beatles covers that is actually better than the original. Joe was a good friend of the Beatles & they loved this song!

Janice Joplin singing Ball and Chain at Monterey is another one who's emotions flow through her whole body. Both Janice and Joe make these songs their own. Listen to A Little Help from my Friends by the Beatles and you'll see how Joe made it soooooo much better.
