Doing these now, 2022, with Joe's rebuild kits. Brilliant kits. The bushings can be maddening. By the 3rd one I kinda got the hang of it. Don't overlook this. If your shaft bushings are worn/loose the engine will never run properly.

Brilliantly explained! I’ve got a triple set of HD8s sitting on the bench awaiting major kits. Sure glad I watched this video before starting. Thank you, Joe.

Great video. Questions: do I really need to change those bushings? Everyone else's video skips that part. How do I tell if the bushings need to be changed? How much play is normal? Am I right that HD8's don't have to be reamed because the bushings has prevented the carb body from being worn. Thanks for this!!

Thanks for putting this out. I've rebuilt many HS4 and 6 , but never HD8 carbs. I'm just starting the rebuild on the carbs for a '67 E-type 4.2, and was contemplating the mysterious PTFE bushes in the kits! It seems like it will be so much less a headache than the hassle of reaming for over sized shafts, or boring out for and installing new brass bushes like you have to do with the other SU carbs.

Dude this video is amazing. Thank you. Rebuilding some HD8s right now and this is great. How much slop does there need to be to install the bushings? I have just BARELY any slop in the shaft, but a tiny amount.

After a rebuild on my HD8 carbs the pistons drop as desired/expected. When I add oil to the damper the piston no longer moves freely. ??? I don't understand this. Do I have to go back and adjust the jet again because of the oil in the damper???

are aftermarket rebuild kits as good as the actual SU kits?
