The manager is the least of this organizations problem. They’re a mess from top to bottom. Best thing they can do now is trade Harper so his career isn’t a complete waste
@RayBecker2 жыл бұрын
In the last ten years, the Phillies have produced ONE homegrown talent; Nola. Hoskins is erratic and basically serviceable. Segura; FA. Gregorius; FA. Bohm will be a bust. Outfield is a joke. You don't sign a Harper unless you have other young pieces in place. Realmuto; FA. Pitching Staff is at best, AAA save Nola and Wheeler. Then they go out and throw money at Castellanos and Schwarber? The Phillies lack pitching, fielding, situational hitting and energy. The moves of the last five to six years will set them back a Decade. The Farm System is crap. The best part of the Phillies organization is the grounds crew and the mascot. This from a lifetime phan; born and raised in the Philly area and turning 59 this year. Middleton is the only bright spot, assuming he will blow up the whole thing and do a complete rebuild. A number of the veteran players are not even trade material due to the ridiculous contracts. The lesson here is that you can't throw money at free agents and fix your ballclub. It all begins with Scouting. Eyeballs at high school and College. The Phillies are very proactive with Latin American players but there is no fruit at the Major League level. Press the detonator and start over. In the meantime, look for five more years of mediocrity.

You are correct. The Phillies had a talent Recognition problem for years. They over estimated players for years. The other problem was poor player development. On top of players not performing when they Made the big team. They left and teams like Oakland A's, SF Giants would make them stars.

He left Boston bankrupt, but they did win and they had a good farm system and they won again. Andrew Painter is a really good draft pick, so I can't complain there. it was obvious the Philies just didn't like Girardi.. Girardi's passion for coaching left him when he wasn't with the yankees anymore.. Now its obvious it's just a "job" to him.. it's clear the way to players like Segura reacted to him when he came at him the one day...they just don't like him. Hopefully now its a breath a fresh air for them to play the game and not worry about little Girardi's analyzations.

You win the World Series by doing one of two things. You either buy a bunch of the right, good players, like the Dodgers. Or you homegrow talent and bring in players to fill the gaps, like the ‘08 Phillies. The Phillies did neither. They bought the wrong players, and had no homegrown talent to fill in around. And then they brought in a manager who hadn’t won in a decade. And even that WS win came with such a breadth of talent that they could’ve won with any other manager.
@yuy389 Жыл бұрын

@pmmcrobb Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I highly doubt they could replicate what they just did. A bizarre 9th inning rally in the 9th inning of their first game, which basically broke the back of the Cards. Absurd offensive performances for most of the playoffs. Throughout the season they’d have these spurts of offense where they’d rattle off a win streak, and then there’d be a sudden drop off and several game rut. That’s kind of what happened here. Hit a streak from the 9th inning against the Cards until Game 4 of the World Series. And then the Astros simply wiped them away without their offense.

Ok so let's some up, Joe Girardi won a World Series and a couple division titles with the Yankees, which is probably the most difficult job in baseball, and who probably has forgotten more then Dave Dumbroski, yet Girardi is the reason that the team stinks, when its obviously the bullpen and offense that killed this team to this point, and how is it that for 30 years it seems Howard Eskin asks the best questions at these press conferences, it is amazing.
