@greyklopstock715523 күн бұрын
@JasperWolf-wy9mb in an incredibly favorable matchup for the finals and ducking every team in the league that presented actual matchup answers to their construction. They didn't have to see new York, Denver, or Minnesota, and the Celtics arguably couldn't have asked for a more favorable matchup than Dallas, whose best big was a rookie and who had basically zero wing depth. Boston didn't even have to outplay any of their playoff opponents, cause they loaded up the roster and just out-volumed everyone they saw. This is something that happens from time to time and it gives people a false impression of how viable teams and strategies are. I mean, the Celtics got to see the pacers with an injured Tyrese Haliburton (not that he would've helped anyway) and the 6 seeded mavericks in the conference finals and finals! Jacking up 50 threes a game has diminishing returns due to the greater variance in efficiency on a game to game basis in three point shooting compared to interior scoring. The Warriors got around it for a decade by running a complex motion offense featuring the two greatest shooters ever that generated the most wide open threes per game in the league (we have the stats for this). Teams all come in for the last decade against golden State saying "we can't let them get wide open threes." And for a decade, they've been able to get them anyway. Boston doesn't have a scheme nor the quick decision makers to generate that, so they make it up through sheer volume. They don't have sets getting guys open, they lack the ball and player movement as well as tempo to exhaust the defense enough to get open, it's literally just like two actions. That shit works against a defensive front of Luka Doncic and PJ Washington, but when a team can throw Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and GPII at your ball dominant wings and isolation heavy perimeter offense, you get games like last night. A million turnovers, cold spells, and an over reliance on second chance offense. You run what Boston runs with any other roster, and it's a 6 seed. I mean, even the dantoni rockets at least ran sets! Boston basically only does iso, pick and pop, and drive and kicks. They run an aau offense
@prancesco1523 күн бұрын
The most frightening thing is the offensive end is even worse

At 0:10 seconds - Al Horford is hugging Draymond at the 3 point line because the Warriors default action whenever Draymond's defender ignores him is to bring Curry's defender in a high PnR or Dho. Horford is sitting high to disincentivise this action.

"Why is Al Horford guarding Draymond Green above the three point line?" Oh, I don't know, maybe because Draymond shot 42% from three last season, and you don't want him to step up into and open three - nor do you want to have to overreact to that open three and allow a Draymond blow-by that will result in an easy assist. Maybe that's why.
