I thought years ago for sure this guy would be the next Bob Dylan ..this song hooked me years ago ..I think we live in such a fast moving plastic world that most folks don't even listen to good music anymore ..just noise ..well I guess that's OK..because it just makes artist like Mr.pug and his songs even more special for us souls that are listening for other searchers..thanks Joe for sharing these beautiful songs that sooth the ones that enjoy that form of medicine..God bless..

"Will you recognise my face, when God's awful grace, strips me of my jacket and my vest, and reveals all the treasure in my chest." For me, this is the most well written song of all time. Wildly underappreciated, but then again I kind of like that about it.

Why aren't there more artists like Joe Pug? Why isn't his name more widely known? Listen to the lyrics. You belittle and hate and malign the kind of person he describes. You don't want someone who's "come to test the timber of my heart" or "get broke, then maybe bum a smoke". You don't want someone who's "come to ask them for a lot". That's a hard friend to satisfy. That's a man or woman of moral integrity. It makes your life hard when a good friend calls you out and rightly so, much less asks that you reciprocate the support they've shown you. Better to marginalize them and let them languish in loneliness and depression and homelessness. Better to find someone with the privilege who won't have a need to ask for so much. The reason there aren't more artists like Joe Pug? You don't respect the human being he might have been if fate had dealt him just a slightly worse hand.

I was very fortunate to have seen Joe Pug at two different shows about 10 years ago. After the show each time Joe stayed outside and talked to each of the guests and they were as Invested as I was. There is a very natural sense about him. It was like we could talked all night about anything. An incredible experience both times. God bless you Joe Pug. You really touched my life. 👏🙏🙋♀️

Astonishing when he entered my world and has never been anything else. When I have introduced people to Joe Pug it always has the same profound effect that introducing people to John Prine or Bob Dylan has had. Music and poetry that can change lives. These songs help me see the beauty in a riven world. Peace.

I think the past 10/15 years has seen a resurgence of poets and performers, of great story tellers. This type of song writing is not the rarity... for it exists and is abundant. The rarity stems from the fact this type and level of artistic expression is rarely promoted or celebrated... and remains more of an underground vibe...

I so want to learn this song - I am an amature ( not very good really) This is the song between my daughter and I- she introduced me to it , with love in her heart and tears in her eyes - she had something to say to me - so cool to do it in such a beautiful song, the words have meaning for us - as I am sure they do for others- but her B day is in 2 weeks - I just thought about it - too late -

Yeah I've come to know the wishlist of my father I've come to know the shipwrecks where he wished I've come to wish aloud Among the over-dressed crowd Come to witness now the sinkin of the ship Throwin pennies from the sea top next to it And I've come to roam the forest past the village With a dozen lazy horses and my cart I've come here to get high To do more than just get by I've come to test the timbre of my heart Yeah, I've come to test the timber of my heart And I've come to be untroubled in my seeking And I've come to see that nothing is for naught I've come to reach out blind To reach forward and behind For the more I seek, the more I'm sought Yes, the more I seek, the more I'm sought And I've come to meet the sheriff and his posse To offer him the broadside of my jaw I've come here to get broke And then maybe bum a smoke We'll go drinkin two towns over after all Oh, we'll go drinkin two towns over after all And I've come to meet the legendary takers I've only come to ask them for a lot Oh, they say I come with less Than I should rightfully possess I say the more I buy, the more I'm bought And the more I'm bought the less I cost And I've come to take their servants and their surplus And I've come to take their raincoats and their speed I've come to get my fill To ransack and spill I've come to trade the harvest for the seed Yeah, I've come to trade the harvest for the seed And I've come to know the manger that you sleep in I've come to be the stranger that you keep I've come from down the road And my footsteps never slowed Before we met, I knew we'd meet Yes, before we met, I knew we'd meet And I've come here to ignore your cries and heartaches And I've come to closely listen to you sing I've come here to insist That I leave here with a kiss I've come to say exactly what I mean And I mean so many things And you've come to know me stubborn as a butcher And you've come to know me thankless as a guest So will you recognize my face When God's awful grace It strips me of my jacket and my vest And reveals all the treasure in my chest
