I started cooking because of Anthony Bourdain, in one of the old No Reservations episodes he came to Dublin and went to a seafood restaurant in a town called Howth, i told my dad about it and said it looked like a great place to eat, he said one of the guys he works with is friends with the owners son, so about a week later im at home bored and my dad came home and said basically ''you know that place you were telling me about?, i said ''yeah'', he goes ''you have an interview there tomorrow''. And i went along and that was that, i got the job in the restaurant i heard from through Anthony Bourdain, all the staff were saying how much money they had made since his visit from all of the American tourists coming over since his visit. I would even go to other places in Dublin that he visited; i got his cookbook Appetites, i watched almost all of his shows and i was watching them the day before he died. Here's to the great Anthony Bourdain.

Anthony Bourdain is one of the rare examples of watching someone age and weather life in a way that's harsh but authentic, and the magnetism of that made him enmagtic. He had a hard focus only available in people struggling with the permanence of mental illness. No, there were quite a few people from privileged and non-privileged backgrounds alike who committed suicide back then as well, and there are people with a strong will to live no matter the circumstances today. In my unprofessional opinion, I think the majority of the depression these days comes from the way we've built our society. Everything is geared towards making people feel alone, because then you can make money off people seeking happiness, when they're only buying fleeting pleasure. Everyone I know feels alone, there's zero sense of community anymore, nobody talks in person, people only talk on social media, there's no community safety net. It's extremely sad, I have dreams of changing this but there's only so much you can do when you're broke :(

My best friend since high school committed suicide and it still affects me. We had a falling out towards the end of my college career and stopped speaking. He tried to make things right a few years later and sent me a friend request on Facebook, but I was still holding a grudge over what had happened and even after he apologized, I ended up deleting him shortly after. Months had passed and I saw that a mutual friend had posted something about him saying that he passed away. I felt horrible because I know if I had just let things go and forgiven him, maybe the outcome would be different. I know he needed someone since he had recently broken up with his girlfriend, but I held onto that grudge until it was too late. His death taught me to forgive those who ask for forgiveness and don't hold onto grudges, especially over trivial shit. I really wish I could've changed things.

You know, I've dealt with anxiety and depression my entire life and I've been knocked to the floor with it. Medication has helped though it did take some time. I think what people who do not have chronic, clinical depression do not understand is it a silent stalker. It hits whether or not your on medication, though I will add that medication makes you more resilient. But when it hits you feel guilty that you can't overcome it and then it begins to feed on all of your negative feelings until you arrive at the point where you are immobilized. I cannot know what Anthony was going through when he took his life and I surely wish he had shared his feelings with someone who could have intervened. But he was suffering so much he thought that dying was the only relief. This is my greatest fear and why I continue to take medication. I fear that one day I'll get to the point, that I will suffer so much pain that the only way to get relief is to take my own life. I am sorry for Anthony and his friends and loved ones. But maybe the take away is that depression is serious and not look at it like it's a personal failing, but a real medical condition. Robin Williams once said that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. When you're depressed it doesn't feel like a temporary problem.

Sometimes the most dangerous time for people is when they're coming OUT of depression. A lot of them may have decided to take their own life during the depression but the thing about depression is that it makes you not want to do anything at all. Then when the depression lifts a little bit and they finally have enough energy and/or motivation to do stuff that's when they decide to proactively take control and end things. A lot of people are described as peaceful and happy right before they and their lives because they finally come to terms with it and they finally feel like they have enough motivation and control to do whatever they want to do.

It isn't strange at all, people will never take their life at their lowest point, they don't have the motivation to do it. When they are recovering is the most dangerous period.

Depressed people who regain their energy before they regain the ability to not feel horrible are at very high risk. The biggest months for suicide are April, May, and June for much the same reason - people get energized in the spring, which makes them more willing to carry out their suicidal plans. It's also a big part of why people getting on antidepressants have an elevated suicide risk for their first month or so.

Thanks for talking about post surgery depression . I had a major spine surgery 2 years ago . I am so thankful to walk again of course but I have to say I have been struggling with my emotional health ever since. Life is tough and I really think some people feel pain more. Try to be kind to each other and yourself .

Lost my father to suicide when I was 5. I feel really bad for the kids. Of Anthony and Kate. Until you actually understand depression you feel like you were not enough for someone to want to stay. Just like their kids, I was the only child and a girl. I had trust issues with males, if my dad wouldn’t stay for me then why would anyone else want me. It took me until I was about 23 to understand him having experience some depression myself. RIP
@GUITARTIME20246 жыл бұрын
Bibi Love. I also went thru a few major depressions that were awful, and I have a kid. Trust me, when you are in a full scale depression, your own mind is just hammering you non stop with negative feelings and you literally think your loved ones will be so much better off without you. That's the mental hijacking of depression. It is merciless, destroys your judgment and has no connection at all to the depressed person not loving their kids (at all). Your dad was ill from a type of Stage 4 mental cancer, let's say, and it became terminal. Sorry for your loss, but please understand, he literally thought he was doing the right thing at the moment.

It was his girlfriend, the vicious backstabbing black widow Asia Argento. He had attached his sense of worth and happiness to her. When he discovered she was screwing around with some younger guy (the two were photographed at the Cannes film festival looking like high school kids in love for the first time) it probably devastated Anthony. Lesson men: Don't ever make any woman your world, whether it's a lover, girlfriend, wife, anything. Treat them well, protect them, honor them. But understand they are there to compliment your life not become your life.

I've suffered from depression most of my life. I definitely knew something was different about me when I was 12. I'm 40 years old now. Working out and anti-depressants don't work for me. I've just kinda learned to deal with it over time. Its has definitely cost me a lot in my life.

The basics on how to achieve happiness in life: 1. HEALTH: exercise 3-5 times a week + strict and proper nutrition with one cheat day/meal a week 2. WEALTH: try to be content in your work life and save way more than you spend...if this means living below your means, then so be it. (this is the hardest one by far and the one most people struggle with) 3. RELATIONSHIPS: Spend more time with the all the people in your life (family and friends) You must achieve a balance of all the above - it you focus too much on one thing (like spending too much time at work for example) then other things get ignored and will lead to un-happiness. Best of luck!

It’s amazing how much better you feel when you get up, walk around, eat clean, workout, and go meet people outside every day. That can literally be the thing that gives a person who’s barely hanging on a second chance to be happy again. It is only there that you will find purpose in living - not on the computer.. sitting down inside, not around people or doing things you enjoy. Get out and live ...... YOLO

DADDY Very true&accurate comment..Keeping busy,positive social interaction with people or Animals..I always found walking the Dogs for Hours,out in the fresh Air,experiencing nature extremely Therapeutic..Not suggesting this is the Panecea for everyone but certainly won't do any harm..On Anthony Bourdain-Who for the most part was a decent Guy,I had watched him for quiet a few yrs-He had this ability to be able(through food)to sit down(or stand o/s somewhere very basic) and "Break Bread"with people,&have a chat..But even b4 he revealed his past(Drug Dependency)I could see he was a man of extreme Appetites..I'v worked with quite a few people over the Yrs,who suffered with "OCD"and it wouldn't surprise me if he had it..Some people cam utilize it Professionally(work extremely hard)but the risks never go away..But I think it will come to pass,that we will find out his Passing was linked to his Romantic Life-He was fragile emotionally and seeing Pics of his Woman(who he seemed completely smitten with)walking in Rome,Holding Hands,Cuddling&kissing another Man,may have "Tipped the Scales"..I think that Chick liked(An was born in2 it,her Father being some famous Italian Director,but let's be honest,many an Italian film has been"Style or substance"Arty,Farty,dark&moody Fucking BS)) the Celebrity lifestyle,met him while they were filming in Italy(she was in XXX with Vin Diesel"but that was it internationally)was aware that he was big news and attached herself to him(His Star was rising rapidly).And then the Harvey Weinstein situation came about and has been big News, and her&Rose McGowan(who I didn't have the faintest idea about)have constantly been in the Media..portraying themselves as Activists&Victims and SJW..And the key word is"Portraying" or maybe Acting!.That's my take..A Shame for AB and his little girl and former Wife..May he R.I.P.

You obviously don’t understand mental illness, it’s not that simple
@06livefast6 жыл бұрын
No but it is. Mental illness is a struggle, but you almost always come to the conclusion that you must fight to keep going. It may take years to come to that conclusion but in the end it's that or die. When you come to that conclusion.. the battle doesn't end there.. it's a life-time of battling to stay afloat. But overall its simple because it's a decision to stay alive or try the next carnation.
