@@onespeeddan6803 the reason I say that having a bad life doesn't cause depression is, because suicide rates have gone up, but quality of living has gone up as well. Life has gotten easier for people, so they are trying to find reason to feel sorry about themselves. When you play the victim, you become sadder, not depressed. Suicide rates are lower in 3rd world countries, because they are to busy worrying about eating to stay alive, rather than complaining aboutstudent loan debt

Biggest cause of depression is expectations, not even high expectations but normal expectations like getting a decent job and being able to afford a life with family/kids. Baby boomers had this handed to them on a silver platter. Our generation is screwed, unaffordable housing, job scarcity/low wages/job insecurity. We’re missing the milestones society expects us to hit. Social media is cancer for the soul and everyone compares themselves to others instead of appreciating what they have. And most of us are so isolated from people and nature, we’re social animals and need a strong connection to both. The increasing political and global tensions arent helping either. I’ve been fighting depression for a while and slowly working my way out. I used to think about how pointless life is and everywhere I went my mind would start looking for easy ways to kill myself, I hated how I felt. I’m still depressed some days but I don’t want to kill myself anymore. A huge factor that’s helping is my diet, I now eat like my body is a literal machine and I need only what’s best. Processed foods are gone. I started lifting weights and training for a 26 mile marathon, and I’m working on building a meditation habit. If you’re depressed, it’s no way to live and you deserve better. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and see how it makes you feel. Also fuck social norms, and fuck social expectations.

I have no real reason to be depressed. I have a good family, We're low middle class, not poor but not well off either. What makes me so depressed is essentially what life is. Spend all of your childhood in school. Yeah you make friends, But after grade school it's homework+projects+grades+social anxiety+stress. Our life's basically consist of "Get good grades and live a happy life!". But that isn't the case. We spent all this time in school, (Learn almost nothing that we need to. I don't even fucking know how to do my taxes, register a car, or get insurance. But I know the parts of a cell!) Just to either go to more school and get debt, or go work for the rest of our life's. If you're lucky enough to retire at a good age, with good money then you have a few years of enjoying life. We spent almost all of our life's working, and with work you get stress. Constant stress takes a toll on the body and mind.

@JesDaBest Gaming I think part of the issue is that there is shame surrounding the label of being “mentally ill.” People have used the status as attacks on presidential candidates, and courts allow plaintiffs and defendants to be attacked with such labels which can end up swaying rulings. You can even be denied jobs based on the status of having a mental disability. I think people here blaming you for your loss are ignorant. They don’t know the full circumstances surrounding your friend’s troubles, and none of us really know what role or lack thereof you had in his life. What happened is between you and God man. I wish he found a way to keep marching forward, but even the strongest of us aren’t immune to succumbing to grief. It’s a very painful feeling being miserable every minute of your life, and not even knowing what exactly you’re living for; having nothing to look forward to.

People are depressed because of: 1. Genetics 2. Trauma, bad childhood, unfortunate sequence of events that unfortunately snowballed 3. Wrong thinking, terrible thought process, unhealthy high amounts of expectations, and ego
@SliceofBread1235 жыл бұрын
1. Genetics don’t guarantee depression 2. Not everyone that experiences trauma in childhood has a terrible life - although the #1 risk factor for substance abuse and addiction is childhood trauma I think one of the most overlooked factors is diet. Eating a meal of shit food makes you feel like shit. Multiply that by 3 meals a day, 365 days a year, by however many years, it’s easy to see how it can add up.
@williambullen30315 жыл бұрын
ApeHead Obviously the points I highlighted are not absolute 100% likely going to happen, genetics being a random card game in general, and for childhood trauma, individuals may rise above their predicament, or that their trauma wasn’t “traumatic enough”. They CAN still be the cause of depression however. I agree as well about diet being a factor of depression. Eat like shit, and wonder why one feels like shit, physically and mentally.
@TheJimmyswe1505 жыл бұрын
Genetics no, it's all vitamin/mineral imbalances and hormones and chemical imbalances in the brain thanks to the things I mentioned above, taking niacin aka vitamin b3 and vitamin c in megadoses cures most brain diseases like bipolar, schizophrenia, adhd/add and more, also vitamin d, B12, b complex, copper and zinc, all diseases begins in the gut and that's what all these things is that all these people suffer from their birth then it just builds up from year and year, diet is everything, if you take a male for an example and run blood tests, it often comes to low testosterone thanks to deficencys in the things I mentioned and you also look at their diet with all depressed people and all depressed people have shitty diets, just a single lemon in water in the morning kills my anxiety and boost my mood to get shit done, just a single damn lemon
@williambullen30315 жыл бұрын
@@TheJimmyswe150 Late reply ik, but genetics definitely does play a factor, but it doesn't overall determine the end results of your state of mind. The reason for the hormone and chemical imbalance is a product of your genetic makeup from the time of your birth. This is not to say that your genetics overtime is not determined by outside factors, because it is. I hope to not sound arrogant, but I personally have never experienced any internal physical sickness out of nowhere, and to the great scheme of things, have never taken into consideration of my health. The only illnesses I've received are from my outside environment. 40% of an individuals happiness level is determined by genetics, while the rest is under our control. Life is what we make of it, and happiness is a choice :)

In reality, we are orders of magnitude better off in civilization. Before modern science and civilization, for most of human history, life was nasty, brutish and short. Before modern times, most people died in infancy and childbirth, people precariously faced starvation, and most people who survived infancy later died of diseases which today are very perfectly curable and preventable. And of course, virtually no one made it to old age. Things were bad then. Humans now have it better than we've ever had it in human history.

For me things are overwhelming. I am often struggling with having all aspects of my life on point at once. Temptation is also so great these days. Alcohol, drugs, porn, TV, the Internet, long working weeks, grades, video games, smoking, social media, shitty food everywhere. It's so hard to resist all of these at once it always seems like at least a few have got a hold on me at any given time. Simplicity is a concept of the past.

Things are messed and we are so little that we cant do anything. This is the main reason why I can't get out of depression even if I am successful in a lot of spheres in my life. Life isnt hard for me, its just boring as shit. I no longer enjoy things I used to love. Like, memes back in the days made me laugh a lot, now the most I can do is giggle. I don't know, I am a point where everyone fears I kill myself but I don't really care because it would have been a well thought decisions. I have been thinking about it for years. I no longer care, when I talk about it I can even laugh because I no longer care. Cant be happy enough to enjoy life cant be unhappy enough to choose to kill myself in the near future. When I think at those things I am not even sad or have any emotions. There's nothing to do except just thinking about ourselves but I dont think it will work for me.

@@Happys_Art Yeah, if god even exists. I mean i would follow the "rules" if I knew at 100% I would. The problem with religions is that everyone think it holds the truth but only 1 will prevail or none. I do my best to make this world a better place without hurting people and I just hope someday I could be happy and go to heaven if it was well deserved. Everyone experiences bouts of depression in their life at some point. Whether it be grieving a family member, breakup of a relationship, losing a job etc. But these phases come to pass and you can come out the other end, that’s normal. Some people have clinical depression where they just can’t function and don’t know why they feel so low, it’s a scary thought. I just think modern society inhibits depression far more because there is so many ways we are scrutinised nowadays. The way we look, what we do for a a job, what we eat, every aspect of ourselves is picked upon. This is down to social media. Back in a more simpler time you went and did your job, came home to your family and that was it. You didn’t have someone messaging you on 5 different social media platforms telling you who followed your account or hasn’t liked your photo. It’s fucked up, and isn’t normal.

I remember years ago, a family friend was visiting. He was a psychologist. I asked him his view on depression, as one of our family members was taking Lithium for it at the time. His opinion was that there were 2 types of depression: one caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, that required meds, the other was caused by our thought process. He believed the latter was much easier to cure.

Look at Facebook...if you post anything that is unpopular, people will unfriend you or comment that you shouldn’t be “negative”. The new mantra is to isolate people who are honest, and to only interact with people who always have to say the popular thing.
