Idk about world war 2 but in world war 1 some American units were issued brass knuckles with a blade at the end referred to as a trench knife. That and Americans really weren't as focused on public relations and how brass knuckles looks in terms of optics than they are today. Even war has to be sanitized nowadays but back then when it came to doing what needed to be done and the equipment to do it they really just "sent it" so to speak.
