Even today, I think a good blocking TE is a very efficient weapon against many modern defenses because it involves the all 3 defense levels (DL + LB + DB) to counter both the new gap, the new pass target and mostly all the new combos he provides! This obliging the defensive coordinator to more complex and unbalanced defenses schemes!
