Joe, Dopamine can be released by doing anything enjoyable, like scrolling through tiktok (so technically you can get addicted to anything that you enjoy doing), It is a neurotransmitter so it isn't in food, BUT what is in food is tyrosine which when your body ingests it transforms into dopamine, foods with tyrosine include almonds, and addictions like smoking are mostly from the nicotine they have which is an addictive hormone that if you give to your body in excess, your body will be lazy to produce, so if you stop your brain would hurt, so that isn't necessarily dopamine (I know no one asked but, if anyone is reading this, now you know!)

I was looking for reasons why people would eat non-food items like mattresses (which would be classified as an eating disorder called "pica") and these are two reasons I found: 1) Swallowing or chewing feels good and provides sensory stimulation 2) Swallowing relieves some bad feeling She probably just likes the way the chewing and swallowing the mattress feels. It was a behavior she has had since age 5 that she didn't outgrow. This behavior wouldn't spike dopamine (or endorphins) for everyone, but for her, it does.
