This. Wages might be rising, but cost of living is arguably rising just as fast if not faster. No matter how much the govt is trying to stimulate economy, ppl have no means beside the bare necessities + maybe a new computer/house furniture/cheap used car and they are saving every penny. It's the same thing in Canada, but they are just calling things "Slow" and not stagflation. Banks tried reducing another quarter point at the beginning of January, and I doubt this will have any effect whatsoever. It's worse for you guys over the Atlantic because housing is even costlier than it is in Canada (Barring the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario which are insane) Still the common worker cannot / is sure that he/she will never own a house in our two countries, and rent is almost as bad as a mortgage as well... The forced rise in minimum wage in recent years including this year is having a misleading take on wages generally. Take out the employees on minimum wage and you end up with the majority of the rest of the workforce in the UK on falling or stagnent wages. It's all a big con, and most people are falling for it Virtually all of the facts and figures surrounding our economy, unemployment, inflation is all manipulated b******t. There are 11 million working age adults NOT WORKING in the UK. True inflation is often higher than the officlal published figure. Also, notice how we never seem to be in an official recession - YES you've guessed it, all because of manipulation of those figures. Most people don't want middle management jobs anymore because you only earn a couple of grand a year more than someone on an entry level job on minimum wage. By 2030 most of the workforce will be on minimum wage regardless. Wave goodbye to hope and say hello to misery in the UK

YT does not permit hot links, bu you can have a look by googling "United States Immigration" and adding "histclo" And the central point is how much immigration has added to our country. In discussions with progressives I find most seemed to not have mastered 2nd grade math. You are somewhat of an exception. You seem to be at the 4th grade level. You are right, pensioners are expensive. In fact because of that and massive uncontrolled spending, states like California, Illinois, and New York are bankrupt. And the only way out of all of all this debt is economic growth. And LEGAL immigration can play a role in that. What you miss is your assessment is the high cost of maintaining the 15 million illegal aliens, that Biden let into the country. They are a net negative, not a net positive factor. You have to add in the costs of education, housing, medical care, welfare, and other social services these people require. A substantial part are poorly educated and do not qualify for the high-tech jobs that America needs to fill to grow the economy. The United States or Britain in short can have a welfare state or we can have an open border. It s mathematically impossible to have both. Perhaps you have missed the massive spending for illegal aliens that cities like Chicago, New York, and LA has been forced to fork over to illegal aliens restricting support for low income residents in these cities. The cities have huge budget short falls and this is before the cost of pensioners kick in fully. Now I am assuming that you are British. Britain and Europe in general face the same issue, but unlike America without a growing economy. Just look at the DATA. British and EU GDP in 2008 and 2023:: 2.9/14.9 Trillion Dollars.in 2088, but only 3.3/18.6 Trillion dollars in 2023. The employers either fire the less qualified workers or increase their salaries. The salary increase also pushes up salaries of more qualified employees. This is a very particular case, because those fired (the low-qualified) do not represent a threat for the high-qualified. If qualification and experience was the same, supply-demand rule applies and the more people is fired, the less average salaries are being paid.

There are a lot of factors that affect the national average pay. One factor is the acceleration of technological innovations. For example AI, drones and energy are now deemed national priorities and salaries for experienced people in these fields are likely to raise the overall average pay significantly. Ditto construction workers, and all associated industries.

Inflation is a see-saw. One one side is the state and on the other is the citizen. Without growth if the state doesn't reduce in size, then the citizen's wages will need to reduce relatively. Sadly this leads to a reduction in PPP relative to USD, in otherwords you become poorer per capita. This reduces growth & necessitates a nominal headcount increase (immigration). Needless to say this has been happening for decades.

My government in Australia mandated a rise to wages greater than U.K. wage inflation for the last couple years, and the world hasn’t ended. In fact, quality of life has improved. Brits are ridiculously underpaid in comparison. Stop fearing inflation, start fearing how you’ll never get out of the horrific institutional poverty you live in, when the USA, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, etc etc don’t have your issues. Poland will overtake the U.K. soon, and they were the butt of many British jokes and abuse, oh so far you have fallen.

Joe talks about wage increases but has scant information as to who and where that is being enjoyed. Granted many people have not had any or minimal wage increases in the last few years, so this increase now may well be just down to catch up, and the necessity to retain staff as a consequence. No doubt Starmer's government will keep in character and attack the unemployed when a rise in benefits is realised, along with any and all social benefits. I expect from some Tories this will be wholly supported, as the Starmer regime adheres to their playbook. It might beg a question about how much this government is borrowing and just what they are spending it on, and for who's benefit.
