Joe is joined by a very special Friend of the Show for this interview: the one and only, Queen’s finest, Nicki Minaj. The two would go over the earliest moments and catch up on the latest journeys in Nicki’s career; from rapping with the best of them to creating her own fashion line, it’s not out of nowhere that Nicki has become the household name that she is. Nicki chops it up with Joe about her writing style, rollouts for her new projects, rap techniques, her outlook on where hip-hop is going and how the industry should be more adequately ran, to embracing motherhood & more!

That's what Joe does. His platform is a safe space for rappers to be themselves. As an artist he knows what questions to ask but maybe more importantly, he knows what questions not ask. He's not going to spin what they say in order to sell a story because he's been through it. Joe comes from a place of either understanding or trying to understand because he too is often misunderstood.

Her also opening about having a baby and having writers block I truly connected with her on that because I am an artist myself and before the baby I was so determined to make sure I get to where I want . Than having a baby things changed I wanted to connect with my child . Plus I was having a son like whatttttt! I need to be in his life the way I wanted my parents but hat besides the point , when you become a mother and when you are someone who Honors that hood “ motherhood “ all you can think about is your beautiful baby . Giving birth changed me as person and the woman it’s made nothing will ever match up to that . Nicki saying a lot of things I face day to day and it feels good knowing someone on that platform gets it . So real I finally decided to write again and this time it feels different . Everything happens for a reason just trust in your journey and never lose yourself

She is so real?? She got fake breasts, ass, nails ,hair, she got a fake attitude and accent... so the only part of her being real is her being a SAGITTARIUS, using her higher mind. Yall fans are that , fanatics, no one can present facts that go against their delusions of grandeur towards an individual.. these are not negative comments ,just FACTS. You cant say someone is the realest if there body has been altered numerous times.. that alone shows she had insecurities and was self conscious about her self and how other thought of her so much she altered her body to become famous.. THATS NOT REAL..THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS IS NOT REAL.. so if you want to comment back to what I write make sure not to use your bias ,use common sense and realize smoke and mirrors, illusions, ... deep down I'm sure she has a great personality her being a Sagittarius alone however... that alone does not create a "good" person.. doesnt mean she is the realest..smh land of the lost

This interview actually allowed me to see her as a person and not this character. Hearing her insecurities and her battles really humanizes her. Hope she continues to show her true self because it’s really beautiful. The only thing I truly didn’t like about this interview, is that every time she began to say the pressure she felt from men in the industry or being treated as a female Joe shut it down. He kept saying no or we not gonna do that. Nobody cares about how he feels this is an interview asking how she feels.

I'm glad Nicki spoke about the importance of owning your trends and how you have to remind ppl. There's no reason Kim shouldn't have been on every Vogue cover. The fact that Kim Kardashian has a CFDA fashion icon award and Lil Kim doesn't is crazy. No chick was rocking pasties, colorful wigs, fur bikinis etc. Kim is the fashion/content blueprint. No chick had success rhyming about the things she did. Of course Fox gets props too but Kim dropped first so she's the blueprint. Nicki damn sure was the first I remember seeing wearing a long floor length weave. Nicki spoke facts.

Minaj goes on to say that for a while it bothered her but what she realised was more important was the recognition from the culture itself for her efforts. REgarding the specific point of her never being recgnized by the academy, I am saying it was just a matter of unfortunate timing. Other acts had bigger releases , especially commercially. I agree with everything she’s said, Nicki is a trendsetter, Nicki is one of the greatest rappers of all time and she deserves to be praised and for people to recognise her impact, I think it’s the bare minimum they could do to pay her back for everything she’s done in those last 10+ years.

If you guys pay attention to her interviews, whether you hate her music or rap or attitude, the first thing you will notice in her interviews is that she keeps it real no matter what. This women literally started from scratch and been humble regardless of where the doors were opened for her and her career. That's why God keeps blessing her no matter what, look how genuine and real and intelligent this women is... Her advices are worth a lot of years of experiences that she went through and fought in her career, yet she's giving them out for free and never gets appreciation. She fought streaming services to pay artists and won the case, now none of the artists (all artists) are giving her respect for fighting for that cause. She fought billboard and changed the rules million times to keep it fair for artists and new artists until she got blackballed by them and by Grammy's since they can't dog-walk her. She fought so many cases that was about to ruin so many artists in the music industry and won them. She started so many trends and still an ICON and yet doesn't get her flowers. She is still strong and keeps moving forward. That's why her legacy will never get undone. Remember, She's a FEMALE BLACK RAPPER that writes her OWN LYRICS. SHE IS A BUSINESS WOMEN. ACTOR. MODEL. EVERYTHING! YOU NAME IT!

Joe gave Nicki space to express herself and I got emotional watching her open up to viewers. Joe’s interview technique was like a captain watching the wind and waves then steered the ship. He listened and let her statements breath so the viewers could see and hear her. It would be an injustice to try to sum up what Nicki expressed here so I won’t but I will continue listening to what she has to say.

I really hope she takes a moment to appreciate her impact even tho she may not get the same respect as others. I like how she stated that she was the guinea pig for all the new waves from social media to fashion. Ppl forget. In 08 or 09, I saw like 2 billion ppl dressed as Nicki for a Halloween I was almost scared lol. She created a space for black women to be in these white spaces and thrive. I hope the next phase of her career takes off brand wise like it did for Jay, Ye, Rihanna, bc she no longer needs to put music since theres no integrity. Just focus of building your mogul status and do features when u feel like it. Even with sooo many new girls she still gets the same level of attention and influence when she first dropped.

Do you still have “no idea why”??? Nicki just shed light on the systematic racism & “privilege” the industry pretends doesn’t exist. Unfortunately superstar Nikki Minaj got machines eg. Billboard, Vogue spreading their systemic racism & disgustingly blatant biases. It’s ridiculous, racism period is ridiculous & immature!! Truth is, nearly everyone I know are some kind of dumb axx racist. We got to do better as a species. I love our differences. When we’re able to celebrate our differences as opposed to condemn an entire people, will sxxx change. Truth is, black people are usually the victims of racism. Honestly, blacks cannot end racism. Only the creators of racism, can put a stop to it. Racism is so freakin lame, but so are the racist. I am not proud to say, at times, I’m prejudice, but absolutely grateful to say I’m not at all a racist!! It’s been a couple hours since you left comment, with plenty of time to understand. So I saw a shorts of this interview and came back to see the full context of how she was answering something, and I am SO GLAD to see how she stepped herself back and answered honestly. Because she initially said, these men she saw as family/friends would not influence her to have surgery, but then backed it up and said they would poke at her about her body. I feel like so often, insecurities we have get the flames fanned by friends and family who think they are joking. I can't imagine anyone ever having a part of themselves picked apart and then not taking it to heart. That shit hurts and is coming from some frame of truth, or it wouldn't have been said. I hate that shit, and I will be hella bitter to someone about it, even if I don't point out how rude it is.

I remember driving to parties with my friends always jammin out to their music. Especially Nickis shit before she went mainstream like her mix tape.

I don’t know if I’d describe her as “humble”, but she is confident, self assured as has grown to know her worth. I appreciate this interview, refreshing and I hope that she connects to other female rappers in a genuine way. Sometimes I wonder if she is really just a mean girl acting out of her insecurities, but over time that too will stop as she comes to deeply appreciate, respect and love herself. She has nothing to prove to any one. She’s an amazing artist and I can’t wait to see what else she does in the future

One part that stood out for me was when she spoke about hearing Future mention that he was a lightweight when it came to the substances he frequently raps about. That was a huge point for audiences to receive. Artists really do *have* to accept that they *are* role models and what they say has an impact on many listeners (who may not have great guidance in their respective environments). I may not have been directly influenced by what I grew up listening to, but some kids certainly are.

Nicki and Cardi are opposite universes. Nicki is a multi-talented, skilled artist who writes her raps and an intelligent and insightful woman, while Cardi is an industry plant who used to be a stripper and admitted to drugging and vioIating men to steal from them and she has no talent or skill and doesn't write. Even Cardi had admitted to getting into the industry in hip hop just to make money. She's not an artist.
