This comment section (like most comment sections on this topic) is confused. He is NOT setting boundaries instead what he IS doing is creating a STANDARD. Boundaries are personal and have nothing to do with controlling another persons freedom or autonomy. He is not setting boundaries. He is controlling her behavior. You set boundaries on things you CAN control. Boundaries are very personal. Yes or no you can't talk to me this way, or yes or no can you use/touch my things. You've crossed over into being controlling the moment you tell me what I can and can't do with my own autonomy over my own life. This is crazy manipulative and I hope she's able to see and trust that this is indeed, toxic behavior. Now when we talk about standards, that's something completely different. Respect yourself enough to understand that you don’t have to change or mold yourself to fit someone’s standards and instead find someone’s who’s standards match who you are. A few points. If Jonah Hill looked like Chris Hemsworth this would be a completely different conversation, many are against him primarily because he is considered unattractive. If the genders were reversed, a woman would be praised for asserting and respecting herself as well as establishing her autonomy. Two things. Jonah was wrong for projecting his insecurities on that woman and trying to change her. He values himself as less than other men so he expects his woman would do the same. I get the confusion but yes they can be boundaries. Relationship boundaries refer to the emotional, physical, and psychological limits or guidelines that individuals establish within a relationship. These boundaries define what is acceptable and appropriate in terms of behaviors, interactions, and expectations between partners or individuals involved in the relationship. Boundaries help establish a sense of personal autonomy, respect, and safety, ensuring that each person's needs, values, and limits are acknowledged and honored within the relationship. They serve as guidelines for maintaining healthy dynamics, promoting open communication, and preventing the violation of personal boundaries. Also to be honest I get the difficulty with addressing this but if you simply put Muslim or Amish in front of it and many groups follow this same behavior and no one bats an eye. Not for me but the nuance is you dont need to validate your boundary behind a religion for it to be a boundary even if we disagree with the behavior.
