Chivalry is only corny to corny people. I was taught to be a gentleman to women. I also grew up and learned that you can't be chivalrous to just "any" woman. To put it simply. Some men don't raise their sons to be gentleman. Some women don't raise their daughters to accept it when it comes. Both sides have work to do. IMO. 🤷🏾‍♂️💯💪🏾

The topic of being/not being chivalrous will redirect to the golden rule. Treat others the way you would wanna be treated. Now if EVERYONE lived by that, then yes there'd be no reason not to be chivalrous. But the modern woman generally speaking has entitlement issues, and you can't have entitlement issues without either having an ego or a bitter spirit. And if you're ruled by either of those, then giving chivalrous energy to that is only enabling that behavior. How is that conducive to a good relationship of any kind? A man isn't entitled to sex, and a woman isn't entitled to a psychological/spiritual punching bag.
@Hfgv281

The original golden rule is flawed. It should be "treat others as they want to be treated".

What Joe and a lot of men whom have been popular with women for a while are too privileged to understand is how chivalry has been wholly taken advantage of by the average woman. They don't tend to respond positively or respectfully to chivalry unless it serves their purposes in a selfish way.

The only thing wrong with chivalry is wasting it on the wrong person. The thing that's actually corny is some of these definitions of manliness being thrown around. A lot of these guys worry about what another man will think before anything.

Chivalry isn't dead nor corny but with a lot men (including myself) we see some women don't take a man being a gentleman or just being courteous as good traits in a man. So many women are use to dealing with a--holes they get use to being treated badly or sometimes enjoying toxicity in a relationship they don't know how to accept compliments or kindness from a man....Some women look at being a gentleman as weakness in a man.

Chivalry is why people are sick and tired of how Men are portrayed in Tyler Perry films. In his movies, there's always some woman who has been through toxic relationships and then suddenly some Man (Chivalry Knight and Shining Armor) comes along and deals with all of her Insecurities that were build up because of who she previously dealt with. And now it's the Chivalry Knight's job to deal with all of that and heal her so she can live happily ever after.

I try to read the situation. If I feel like she will appreciate chivalry I'll do it. If I think she doesn't care or doesn't want it, I'll skip it. But in my experience, more often than not, women like it. It is starting to feel a little old fashioned to me, but it's not about me anyway.

I don't think it is. I'm 33 and was always raised to treat a woman with respect and if she has any, she'll do the same for you when the time comes. You'll be surprised how much the little things like giving your hoodie when it's cold, opening doors/car doors or walking towards the outside of the street closer to the curb (so your lady is on the inside) is mind-blowing to some of these ladies because they've never received it. Notice, I said the "right" woman too. Some women don't give a damn. But some, if you treat them like queens, they'll treat you like kings. 🤷‍♂️

One thing that will clear up all confusion is not being afraid to define your relationship at all times. If we start out casually dating, we will just be casually dating until we sit-down and both agree what the next step of our relationship will be. The is no time limit or situation that allows you to skip over the conversation. We can be a year in and seeing each other multiple times a week, but you not my girl and I'm not your man if unless we've actively discussed the progression of our relationship. The reason why a lot of people are afraid of these conversations is that they know how the other person feels. It is entirely up to you to tell your partner when the situation no longer suits you. It is 100% your fault if you decide to wait.

The problem with chivalry is that most of the gestures don't have any value, they're just weird tests. The ones concerning a women's safety is one thing but the other bulls*t is meaningless. You don't need a man's assistance to open a car door or sit down in a chair. These things tell you nothing about the person you're with. You should be paying attention to the actually subtance of your relationship instead of worrying if the guy jumped through some small hoops for you.

Chivalry isn’t dead- I think like anything it evolves. I’m not gonna expect my husband to rush to my side of the car door if I make it there first or same with any door, that’s a little much. I might even open the first set of doors for him and he opens the 2nd. It’s really not that deep. he pays for the gas, I sometimes pump (gasp) but my husband provides for us financially and is a cold ass Barber with a bad back so it’s nothin to open my own door sometimes. Relationships are a give and take IMO.

I'm not gone hold yall, that chivalry shit is overrated to me. Lol. Not saying that I haven't been chivalrous or done chivalrous things, but being over chivalrous is just too much for me. I will open doors to places, walk on the street side and make you feel safe. But you can open your own car door and I'm not pulling out your chair for you at the table. Lol. Maybe on a special occasion like an anniversary or some shit but that's it. I also don't think it should be demanded, but rather it should be organic.

Yes Chivalry is corny! Majority of todays women want their cake and want to eat it too. It’s very very difficult to be chivalrous to aggressive women, and if you think being an alpha male to aggressive women will correct that, you ain’t met one. It’s going to be an argument instead of her settling for that respect you are giving her. These women who say they don’t need a man don’t take chivalry easily. It’s funny how women (and some of these corny men) believe that we as men are supposed to do the things of old while they change.
