Hmm, not really sure what a video like that would consist of. On most systems you have a bunch of smoke detectors, some heats, sprinkler devices, and AVs, and then some auxiliary building functions. I'm not really sure what parts of testing those devices isn't straightforward. I could be wrong, but that never seemed to me like information that was difficult to get. The genesis of this whole video channel was that when I was new to the field, I found there to be very few resources, if any, available to explain how a lot of these functions worked. So I thought I'd do my best to provide that resource to guys seeking it out. I never found testing to be a topic that was difficult to understand or one that warranted much explanation. I could be wrong, and if so, is there a specific aspect of testing that you're unclear on? I don't mean to shoot down your idea, as I've specifically asked people for topics they'd like to see explained. But like I said, I'm not sure what that video would consist of. I'm currently in the early planning stage of a new string of videos that will look at a single 5 story building that will look at designing the alarm system from the ground up. My hope is to tie in many of the topics I've covered individually and see how they all come together in a medium-sized building. Topics like elevator recall, sprinkler monitoring, door release, fan shutdown, addressable devices, etc. Maybe once I've got that mostly complete, I'll do a video on how I would test that building after all the programming is done to ensure everything works and all descriptions are correct.

Merry Christmas Joe, do you have any videos on Properly wiring a notification appliance circuit? Since a notification Appliance circuit cannot be T tapped And must "double back". As a fire alarm designer I can conceptualize this on paper but have a hard time understanding what is actually going on in the field.

Joe can you please make a video series on the ECC 50/100 and the DVC that you can add on to a 320/640. Would like to know more about wiring options. 90% of the time I trigger my ECC 50/100 with a NAC terminal off the FACP. I know you can also trigger the Voice panel with a Control Module. I believe you have to set some things in programming like All Call. I haven't set one up using a Module yet and the manual is a little vague. Also would love to see some videos on adding ECC-RMs RPUs etc. The RPUs were easier but I was a little confused adding ECC-RMs to a 640 DVC

Sam, I have used the ecc 50 maybe twice, so I don't have enough experience with it. I do plan on showing the DVC, but I haven't been working on videos at all in the past 8 months or so.

Hey man! Happy New Years! your Vids are great amazing and very detail! I had a Question... regarding a SK5808 - Trouble that shows "SBUS Communications Dialer" nothing else on the screen display. I tried searching the forums but no luck

My first thought would be to check both phone lines, first for voltage, then if you have the proper voltage then connect a butt set to the lines. If you have a dial tone, try to call your cell phone from the line. There are many variables and possibilities, but that's where you should start.

I'm not sure what you mean by interfacing the two. I have not done that, but I'm not really sure what you're asking. I'd need more details on what you're trying to accomplish.

@@JoeKlochan its like I have 2 fdas system and when I connect the 2 control panel to each other when there was a detection or activation of device in the other fdas system the other fdas panel will repeat the notification from the other panel and vise versa

That's always a pain in the ass. Unless there's only one panel that has to trip the other. If an alarm from one has to trip the alarm from the other, it's complicated because you'd have to reset them both at the se time. There's ways around that but it's a bit much to explain via text. You'd basically need a relay and a monitor module on each panel. The relay is programmed to trip on any alarm except the monitor module which monitors the other panel.

For most of the past 13 or so years I've been doing this I would have said yes, but I feel any company owned by Honeywell is taking a very obvious step back. I don't work on Fire-Lite as much as I used to, but I think they're known now for quality control issues, firmware problems, and a lot of equipment that's bad out of the box. They used to be the perfect panel for strip malls, in my opinion. The software wasn't proprietary, the pass codes had back doors so no one would get locked out, and though they didn't have a lot of high-end functions, they did what they were supposed to do fairly reliably. In a strip mall setting where tenants will constantly be moving in and out and hiring their own fire alarm companies, it just made sense to have a panel like that, at least in my opinion. Because I don't work on them as much anymore I can't give a truly well-informed answer, but that's my impression. I've worked for Honeywell distributors my whole career and have seen recently how little they seem to care when their products have major flaws or defects, how inexperienced and unhelpful tech support seems to be, and how they just seem to have this arrogance of having their distributors by the balls and have no incentive to improve. Fire-Lite doesn't really fall into that last category because you don't have to be an official distributor, but I suspect they have a lot of the same issues their Honeywell brethren have.

Is there ever going to be a follow up to this video? I'm looking for a consistent method to fault find 100v line faults. I seem to always approach every fault differently. Do you use a tone? Multimeter to check for monitoring voltage and EOL ? How to negotiate spurs. Any help would be great and much appreciated.

I haven't done much anything with silent knight voice systems. I've done almost nothing with Fire-lite's voice systems, and I'm not sure what the last one is. My experience setting up and programming voice systems has been exclusively Notifier and Gamewell/FCI, so I can't really speak to those.
