Joel Hoekstra is the perfect example of an high talented guy who knows, that talent is not enough! 20% of inspiration, 80 % of transpiration.

Primo info here. Gotta say I was unaware of the name Joel Hoekstra before this. Not any more. "Life is not a talent contest" ~ Love it! What you see in so many of these Sessions' interviews is the many paths these artists took in their quest to keep playing their instrument, to someday make a living out of it. The road to success heads in a hundred different directions. Sooner or later we discover what it is. His advice: be hard-working, responsible, accepting ... makes sense no matter what you do. Great stuff!

One of the best interviewers and interviews I have seen. Joel is ridiculously talented...his chops, versatility and demeanor is just breaking the surface of why he has been so successful. Did I mention that he had chops? Not to be forgotten, Dom Famularo is a gifted host where he is enthusiastic, asks great questions and never trips over his words. He engages with each artist interview with such passion that it leaps off the screen...I am forever a subscriber to The Sessions Panel

Tabs were invented to show what Eddy Van Halen was playing because he was doing things that were never thought of before. Potting pickups, dipping pickups in wax to keep them from squealing. He was the first to have Gibson style pickups on a Strat (Super Strats). He was the first to have graphics on a guitar. He took finger tapping and made it mainstream. Of course Steve Lynch (Savoy Brown, Autograph) was doing it as well.

Its a great Interview i just stumbled over now! But somehow it looks to me as to be a more typical American thing, because i heard his way of doing it from several other american musicians meanhile, to be involved in such many projects and to be subbing out consequently. Here in Germany unfortunately its more like: oh, you are involved in other projects? You need to sub out from time to time? You still do Studio work? and so on and on.............................. we don't want to work with you (!) because you are not able to offer us 100% of your time. If you want to work with us you cannot still work for someone else etc. We can not rely on you...................... (this goes down to even the smallest Pub-Coverbands). This makes it consequently even more hard in Germany to make a living out of music because you NEED that 1 thing (maybe 2 if at all) to provide your living. I always hated that mentality.
