Exactly what I said vs WVU, I wish he would pull the trigger a beat or two earlier. Even on completed passes, he was regularly releasing the ball after the receiver snapped their head around on an out, for example. His arm strength makes up for it, but I think when he gets that timing better you are gonna see a lot of short pass plays that go for 30 or 40 yards because the DBs are just not expecting the play to develop that quickly.
@kylebernadyn2465 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Timing was the issue on that dropped INT in the endzone that he got away with *and* that slant route to Lambert-Smith that should’ve been a house call. He hits those and that WVU game is even more of a drubbing. Edit: I didn’t even finish watching the video when I posted this reply and he went over these exact two plays. Lmao. Well there ya go.

Agree with Joel 100%. I’m a PSU diehard and two of my thoughts coming into the season were 1) we’re gonna be more dangerous at QB and 2) is this QB “throw ‘em open” good? Like, PSU hasn’t had an elite receiving corps since probably Godwin and Gesicki were here. We didn’t have the best WR talent when Clifford was the starter and he wasn’t the QB who could throw guys open; he was completely dependent on the guys catching the ball. If Allar is somebody who can flip that, if he’s someone who can throw these receivers open with a combo of arm talent and anticipation, then it won’t matter what receivers we have. They’ll all eat.

I like Klatt but some things he said about Allar aren't accurate. His first pass, the long one downfield Klatt said Allar threw off platform as if he couldn't get his body into the throw. Allar was running forward and had all his momentum going to into the throw. He may have been off platform a bit but to act as though he couldn't get anything into his pass besides his arm is not true. Then his last pass in the video, the short slant to Lambert-Smith he said he didn't anticipate which is why his pass was off. He anticipated fine it was just a bad pass.
@kryptokc3800 Жыл бұрын
Actually he was correct in both based on what he was trying to say. Yes, as you say, he was running forward with momentum, but his hip were open as he initiates the throw thereby getting very little hip rotation through the long throw. THAT is what Joel was saying and he illustrated that with his body showing you the difference in the video. Allan didn't "wind up" rotating his hip and core through the throw. It WAS impressive based on the trajectory of the ball. Elite but not necessarily special if we are judging him at the highest level. On the last play if you watch Allar, he does 2 things that are not considered anticipatory. He has a "hitch" step and he pats the ball. Now we are getting really deep here but as a high level QB, that extra 1/2 second those extra movements took contributed to what you call a bad pass. Those 2 movements are the "why" of the bad pass. He wasn't ready to delivery when his brain said "NOW". He was still going through his unconscious throwing routine as if it were a throw he had time to do his normal rhythm. Everything you said could be correct but when you go a little deeper, his assessment is in line.

@@CharlesBolton-yf7eg JJ is a threat with his arm and his legs, planned runs. No QB statistically better in the Big 10 right now. No conference QB with a higher QBR. JJ has been limited to reduce risk of injury. JJ hasn't been kept in beyond 3 quarters yet. The depth chart has been very active. The weaker opponents provide the opportunity. Same is true for PSU. Michigan coaches would not trade JJ for Allar or Mccord. They are very happy with the performance of the offense. The run game could be a bit better. Stop or slow down the run and JJ and the rest of the pass offense will burn you thru the air (like the OSU game last year). November 11 Michigan plays PSU. We will see which QB is better.
