The internationally best known artist Joel Meyerowitz counts to one of the best international photo artists besides Stephen Shore and William Eggleston since the 1960s. Starting his career as a street photographer he is best known for his sensivive photographs of people and especially situations. His later works, when he switched into the 8x10 camera, are very impressive and colourful. Till today his way he handles the light is still groundbreaking.
We were allowed to accompany the artist during his setup of his retrospective show at the Hotel des Arts in Toulon where he presents more than 140 photographs over a decade of 50 years. GREAT!!!

Der US-amerikanische Fotograf Joel Meyerowitz zählt international - neben Stephen Shore und William Eggleston - zu den bedeutendsten Fotokünstlern seit den 1960er Jahren. Begonnen hat Meyerowitz seine Karriere als Strassen-Fotograf in New York und Europa. Sein besonderes Gefühl für den Moment und seine fast intime Beziehung zu seinen Objekten/Subjekten, zeichneten diese Fotografien aus. Als er später auf eine 8x20 Kamera wechselt, kehrt mehr Ruhe und mehr Feingefühl in seine Kompositionen ein. Die Fotografien werden unspektakulärer, aber feinsinniger. Insbesondere sein Umgang mit Licht machen seine Fotografien bis heute einzigartig.
Wir durften den Künstler während des Aufbaus seiner Ausstellung im Hotel des Arts in Toulon begleiten, wo er mehr als 140 Arbeiten aus 50 Jahre seines Schaffens ausstellt. Großartig!!

I read my film rolls, but unfortunately they told me my sense of self is pretty damn boring. I hope they aren't really myself. That'd be sad.

Il fallait couper la vidéo au moment où tout seul dans la pièce il prend une photo de ses photos et où on entend sa voix dire "I", ça suffisait amplement et ça résumait bien le personnage et les images.
