joernone Once you get it working you’ll discover you NEVER have enough records. I’ve got 1000 now and I’m still digging through boxes of unsorted 45s at record stores, junk shops, thrift stores, etc., finding more all the time. Just when you think you’ve got enough, you’ll remember a song you like and then you’ll have to find a copy. Just wait, you’ll see!

Glad the micro switch is good, if you had to replace it I would buy a micro switch somewhere else, $29 is a ripoff, the switch should not cost more than 5 or 6 bucks. YEA John you fixed it!

Well John, just as I was thinking to myself," wish he would try two in a row:, you tried two in a row,,, very cool. I'm with you on the high shipping and handling fees,,, that's just a scam to make people think they are getting a deal but get taken with the shipping stuff.

@tubical716 жыл бұрын
and the best is, if you´re into industrial stuff...this is like lego...and these microswithces are pretty much all the same. you simply buy it wher you want, just tell them you need a standart microswitch. and if this doesn´t fit due to a reason i don´t know, you can still dig inside and rip the things out you need. It´s usual the actor which is custom made.

What is expensive is paying $15 shipping for a small anti-staking weight that cost $10 for a Sansui Turntable which was picked up at a thrift store for $5. It's the simplest things that bring complicated machines to their knees.

I'm not sure sellers realize how much the're losing each year from their stupidly high shipping costs and/or minimum purchase requirements. It's nuts. Regards, John

The mute switches (one for each audio channel) are the way of the mechanism muting the amplifier when the record is being loaded and during the initial crackle noise phase on when the tone arm first contacts the record as it starts playing. I am not sure if this delay is mechanical or electric but I did read somewhere that the mechanism that controls the mute switch is supposed to enable audio to pass through once the record has been picked up, the tone arm comes down and contacts the record and it gets through the crackle phase. If I were testing the lack of speaker sound, I would do it in this order: * Run an external source through the audio amp that is known good (like an ipod, computer audio, CD Player, etc). Note that on an external source, it is possible that the RIAA Equalization stage in the phono preamp section may change the sound quality a tad (phono is different curve than line level in but for a test, it will work). Make sure both the left and right channels work (you might have to short the mute switch line to get audio, I am not sure) to make it unmuted. If this works, go to the next step below. If not the trouble is in the amplifier circuit. If the amp circuit is an issue, you may have a bad solder joint, a component could be bad, etc. I would check voltages in that circuit and perhaps signal trace it if you have a signal tracer. * Once the left and right channels both play correctly and are outputting audio through the speakers, go then reconnect the amp to the jukebox mechanism and see if you have audio from the record mechanism. * If you still do not have audio from the mechanism, try shorting (or opening) the mute switch for each channel and see if audio comes in on the respective audio channel. If you do get audio, the mute switch might be not adjusted correctly or is not opening or closing when it should. * Another cause of the audio not being picked up could be one or more open wires between the tone arm and amp. Make sure these are connected properly and not loose or missing a connection. * Lastly if there is still no sound, it is possible that the tonearm needle or pickup cartridge is weak or needs replacement. Remember stereo phono cartridges have a set of contacts and wires for each channel.

Thanks Stephen, but we know how to troubleshoot an amp. Regards, John
@jimkodysz54046 жыл бұрын
Great troubleshooting John. If I remember correctly, that spring at the micro switch was messed up at first. Maybe someone had trouble there before. If you should decide to change that switch, I have a small box of them here and I'm sure I could match one up for you.
@jakedaniel666 жыл бұрын
That spring tension is very important. It's supposed to keep just enough tension on it that the switch is ALMOST thrown until the record gets to the end and it trips. If too tight, it'll just reject any record selected. Not tight enough, and the resistance of the trip lever pushing down on the switch button will actually relieve the pressure on the tonearm lifting the needle slightly and the last few seconds of every song will sound like garbage. Get a new spring or just play with the old one hooking it loop after loop until you get it in that sweet spot. You've got to adjust that trip lever window too, both top and bottom. You're on the right track! I went through this very thing with mine.

All is well, Jake. The trip switch adjustment procedure took care of it. Regards, John

On the high cost of shipping, here in Canada it is beyond outrageous. I sent a pair of mittens to my daughter by mail, and it cost me 20 bucks. US shipping might be high, but it is a lot better than on this side of the border. Taking our rates into consideration, 9 bucks is a bargain :)

I spend more time searching the internet looking for a decent shipping what a shame. well I am happy for you john we can all sleep well tonight.

Having never seen the inside of a jukebox, I have a question. When the machine is travelling along the carriage it makes a click-a-da-click-a-da-click (spell that from memory again :) ) sound until it stops. Where does that sound come from?

John, The only thing that occurs to me is, what if the contact switch is not pressed in enough to work properly? You press it with your finger until it works. But what if the thing that presses the contact switch doesn't press the contact switch "thing" enough to make the switch operate correctly? I'm not sure what you did, but I think it's a player! For real, this time. Outrageous shipping charges that are too high make me not order things as well. Or, look elsewhere. Regards, Tom

you will not get amplified sound without the amplifier plugged in so there is no way you can tell if the wires are messed up until you plug in the wire. The reason why one needle is louder then the other vibration wise might be that the one on the right is more worn out then the one on the left maybe that jukebox had a record where b side was more popular then a side or vice versa back in the day and they never replaced the needle. luckily reproduction and nos are sold at THEVOICEOFMUSIC.com

Tracking force needs to be adjusted on both sides. You can do it by ear but it’s a hassle or get a gram gauge and set it “by the book”. But you’ve got to play with it to get the tracking force even on both sides.
