Rogan, missed it in the podcast when Nims was talking about anapurna. Nims said when he climbed anapurna 3 out of 4 died trying to climb Anapurna. Joe corrected him via Jamie pulling up Google where it says only 32%. Nims said he changed that statistic because 60 people summited since he set the lines in 2019. He didn't catch it that Nims actually made it safer to climb, and Nims just moved on. Wish that would be corrected.

@@CoronaVirus-fu3zl I never said he IS a Sherpa or is a Gurkha/Gorkha. Yeah, the math still doesn't add up though. 200 people have summitted and 62 have died. If 50 people climbed up and lived because of him, that means 62/150 died before him, so 41% died before he went up. Those numbers might not be exact, but it wasn't a 75% mortality rate when he first went up.

Nirmal Purja is an inspiration just for being a Gurkha to begin with. In 2018 72 of the top 100 ranked shooters in the British army were from the Gurkha Brigade including the winner. It is just one of many examples of why being a Gurkha is badass. Despite their fearsomeness in battle, most Gurkhas are traditionally very family orientated and will just serve until they retire with a pension. Nirmal joining the SBS, getting invited to join the SAS, and all the crazy death zone mountaineering and record breaking he has been doing, is just a Gurkha from humble beginnings realizing his true potential in the world. He continues to inspire many to realize their true potential as well.

Joe was extremely rude to Nims. He clearly explained he changed the statistics of the mountain by fixing a line. How the statistics were extremely dangerous when he went in 2019. Instead of listening he kept telling him how it is; and condescendingly telling him he got it wrong. You could tell Nims was upset by that.
@thephilosopher71732 жыл бұрын
I don't think he's being condescending, he's just misunderstanding and trying to clarify it for himself. Nims don't seem phased too much, because he knows what he accomplished.

You're right. I've been watching Joe from that famous video of Joe talking about float tanks. All the negative press about him has taken its toll and from a human perspective it is a remarkable that he has kept such a great attitude throughout. But you are right. He's not the same Joe. I know right now we are at a precipice where honest media may be at extreme danger of dieing but Joe needs a vacation. Hopefully he finds a good reason to continue to be a great source of information and good in the world.

@@phillies4eva I think Nims may have started to kind of grate on Joe's nerves a bit. I know he did on mine. Taking nothing away from what he's accomplished, which is amazing, to me Nims came off quite arrogant, especially during the first part of the interview. Like, subtly bragging about drinking, and not sleeping, then climbing, etc. He has much to be proud of but I get the sense he might be a hard guy to be around. Joe even kind of dug at him at one point, kind of dismissively calling him Superman. You have to have humility, and I sensed very little of it from Nims. Like the Yngwie Malmsteen of mountain climbing lol

No, the reason people take umbrage to this in the comments is because Joe didn't listen to what Nims said, and then Joe doubled down when Jamie pulled up the (new) stat - the more so because Joe was almost dismissive about the perceived incongruity of the stat. I'm glad Nims was dismissive of him by saying "Okay, you know what Joe I'm not going to argue with you" and then later on says "Google it" when the question came regarding the conversion between Celcius and Fahrenheit.

@@gabrielestea6785 well maybe his dates are not quite right and statistics can change rapidly over time with only slight differences to the actual number so the ratio may be off depending on when you taking it from and I actually think more than 80 have climbed it since him. I thought it was pretty good but could've been 10x better. Also agree this is one of if not the most impressive feat of human achievement ever.

I think it was because they had to squeeze all 14 climbs into one documentary. One moment he is on the summit of K2 and 15mins later he's on top of Everest!
