A kid at school in the late 70s or early 80s had a Grifter from new. It looked quite revolutionary to the rest of us and I think we were a liitle envious. I had a single speed Raleigh something (Concord?) which was my school transport but I fancied a Grifter. Still, any single speed is fairly cool these days. Weird innit? Good for you mate, nice ‘hugge’ vid, 🤙🏽

Awesome video, I would suggest that next time you’re trying to remove corrosion from wheels you try acetic acid in a tub of water and let it sit, works magic if the chrome is still good underneath the rust
@JoesBikesUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hugo, I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for that suggestion, I will try that soon. Thanks also for your comment, it makes all the difference getting a response from people, cheers Joe.

Great work,new sub here, what sort of bench grinder attatchment do u use to polish/remove the rust? Thanks👍
@JoesBikesUK Жыл бұрын
Thank you Rick, the more the merrier! We use a wire brush wheel and we have three different polishing wheels too, we use a polishing soap on the polishing wheels. We also do some work by hand and we use the tin foil trick to restore chrome. I hope this helps, cheers Joe.

Great video looking forward to part 3!! I'm about to start a grifter restoration so looking for all the help and guidance to get it looking like new. 👍 Have the silver version to start on! If i shot blasted the frame do you know a spray that will colour match the original silver grifter finish??

Hi Adam, just getting ready to do part 3, Glad you liked one and two. I have a silver one too and I used a volkswagen silver on that which looks great. Cheers Joe.

Thought you might have gone for the early bronze colour Joe? Think the majority where blue or red.
@JoesBikesUK3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev, I like the bronze too but could not get a rattle can match. I saw a blue I liked so went for that, when I sprayed it It was a different colour than I thought it would be!! But I really prefer it, totally by accident, I hope you like what we have done ;-)

Hi Joe that silver grifter I picked up yesterday wasn't bad at all the tyres took air allthough need replacing and I even rode it and both brakes worked but is rusty and tired so the strip down started today. Can you be a bit more specific about the volkwagen silver paint you used?! Looking forward to part 3 and hope your hand is OK? Am just about to subscribe cheers 🥂.
