Huge thanks for an excellent video. It took a few months for me to source the part via ebay (in the UK) but once I had it, I was able to successfully repair my headphones in less than an hour. Given how many people report this part breaking, Sony should be ashamed of themselves for not acknowledging it as a design flaw and covering its repair under their warranty. By helping me fix it myself, you saved me ~£100 (repair + postage). Thanks again.

Alot of their parts brake or do not work and need to be replaced constantly. Thus, not only does Boeing make a ton on selling highly overpriced planes to the government (military) but also, they make even more by selling parts that break constantly.

I haven't used my broken xm4's for maybe 6 months to a year now. I kept the broken pieces though, ended up gluing the broken pieces together and following this video and now I'm able to use my headphones again! Thank you :)

DANGER: Do NOT use anything sharp (like a metallic flathead screwdriver) as a prying tool near the exposed battery. Like was shown in this video. Even a slight puncture in the battery might cause it to catch on fire and/or to explode. And have for ex. some fireproof container nearby where you can quickly put it to burn safely, as you might not be able to even suffocate/exhaust the fire, if it's one of those types of batteries that continues to burn without any oxygen in the air. Use a plastic prying tool or something similar that isn't sharp. While unscrewing, be very careful not to puncture the battery. Joe, thank you for this informative video! Hi! I am stuck on the first step after removing the first 4 screws (1:31). I am using a very similar tool, and I cannot remove the cover on the back of the earpiece, no matter what I do. It is causing damage around the edge, but it's not popping off. It looks so easy when you do it, but it's not working for me. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks for the great step by step video. I made a new hinge bracket with my 3D printer (sorry guys, I didn't buy anything but a tip coming your way) then by following your instructions I managed to salvage my daughters AUD$400 headphones for the cost of about 7 cents of PLA filament. We have 3 sets of Sony XM4 headphones in our household, the right swivel break seems to be a very common fault with these headphones, so I'll be bookmarking your video for when I need it next time. Shame on Sony for not offering a free repair service! BTW, A plastic Guitar pick makes a great spudger tool and a few magnets in a dish made sure the screws dont go for a wander.

so. I have a broken pair of xm3's and a broken pair of xm4's I originally tried to swap the battery from the 4 to the three. but the three has a unique issue where the power button doesn't work (it blinks a faint red when you press it) so I decided to swap the hinge from the 3 to the 4. The hinges don't match, but if you migrate the hinge AND the arms that connect to the ear cup (that connects via the 2 screws next to eachother), it pairs with the 4.

The swivel replacement has been successfully replaced and the headphones are producing sound but the battery won't charge now. When plugged into USB type C, it blinks twice, indicating abnormal temps, which doesn't make sense as it happens immediately after plugging in the lead. can you offer up any help with this please?

Probably has something to do with the way you wired the headphones back up. Make sure you have all the wires nice and tucked as neatly as you can so airflow can flow properly to keep temps cool.

Can this "hinge" piece not be 3-d printed as a 2-piece ring-like part (Say in PETG material) that can be constructed over the wire instead of 1 sold piece that needs to be routed up the wire? You wouldn't need to disassemble the earpiece so much outside of replacing the gasket if damaged of course.

what do you do if one of the tiny srews is rounded, or is too tight that if i keep trying to get it off it will become rounded.. thank you

If it’s rusted out or stripped you’ll have to drill it out.

Someone should just 3d print the swivel hinges for both sides and they would make a killing. This is my 2nd hinge breaking and this time its the right side.

I managed to fix the swivel thanks to this video, but when I plugged in to charge the headset blinks fast 2 times a temperature sensor issue. Any tips are appreciated 🤞🏾

Thank you very much, sir! I've tried to fix the swivel by glueing it for the first time. It didn't last too long. So folks, if it's broken, don't try to glue it, buy a new hinge. Otherwise, you'll do this job twise.
