Joe, the work you did on this camera is epic! Your ingenuity, and use of alternative materials ('office' tape, as a friend glass) provides viewers with incredible opportunities to try their hands at their own designs.

Ofcourse! The natural evolution of the pixelator concept along with that panoramic solution you showed earlirer. Thanks for the great video!

Most excited about algebra I’ve been in a while! Another great experiment. I’m looking forward to seeing more experiments especially the RA4 prints.

This is a super cool concept. With more resolution (pixels) and interesting aperture designs, this could turn out some really interesting images for sure

Please, please, please revisit this topic. I am starting to build one inspired by your design… wish me luck!

To make it easier to remove the paper from the acrylic, you can simply attach a piece of strong adhesive tape to it
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I like to use artists tape, as it releases without damaging the paper, especially if using fiber based paper lacking a plastic resin coating. Thanks for watching!

LOTS OF STRAWS!!!! Next week.. Joe makes a lens out of ice! Another great video! I like the little book of drawings. Reminds me of Leonardo Davinci. (did I spell Davinci correctly?)

Would a square aperture give square pixels? Or a hexagon?
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
Yes! That's what exciting about this project, the geometric possibilities are endless.

Good job as usual. Joe Is the resultant photo flipped also? Thank you.
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
I didn't flip them, just did a quick invert on my iPhone (using the Smart Invert + screen shot method). For making proper digital prints, of course I make better scans and flip them to proper orientation.

@@Joe_VanCleave When using paper film, have you tried, came across or though of a way to invert the image in camera through mirrors or prisms to correct the flipping? Thank you.
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
@@saidanehabib Mirrors or prisms are an obvious solution. Or perhaps a multi-element lens design that inverts the image. Or project the image through the backside of the paper (emulsion side toward the rear of the camera) ... this idea would be problematic, given the less-than-transparent nature of the paper itself.
@saidanehabib4 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_VanCleave Thank you. To increase the resolution of the pixelated image, instead of the laser drilling, I believe alternative photography could be used to create a grid of tiny holes/squares or other shapes by using the metal acid etching method.
@Joe_VanCleave4 жыл бұрын
@@saidanehabib Yes! Also, you can have thin metal litho masks made for circuit board etching, at a very low cost.

Fascinating and fun. Since you've already created a kind of réseau, another fun area of experimentation might be to print a matching transparency sheet with a mix of red, green, and blue spots aligned with your grid; mount it in the camera and shoot through the aligned grids, then the grayscale results can be seen through the color réseau as a color image. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dufaycolor to get the idea. Theirs was a set of red lines with green and blue squares, but you can do this with all kinds of other arrangements. Mark Osterman at the Eastman Museum has a sheet of transparency he inked with colored Sharpies (I think he used a grid of colored lines, but it's been a few years since I saw it) that performs the same purpose pretty well.

Does the the lenght of the straws effect the focus distance in a "regular" straw camera?
@josephglover45464 жыл бұрын
In 2020 we just use Processing or p5.js to do this 😉 but your hobby is very interesting!
