Joe, I've long admired your photographic ingenuity, and teaming up with Ethan is another example. Using a laser cutter is an excellent way to link your handcrafted camera builds with state of the art technology. Ethan, your creativity and ingenuity is fully on display here. Congratulations to you both!

Great idea to work in cooperation with Ethan. I think you have lots of awesome designs that many would like to buy as they cant make them.

When I watched the original video of building the original camera back in the days I asked myself how to keep that result of a creative mind and craftsmanship alive and maybe spreading the word... well here‘s the answer ... well done. And very much fun to watch. (Although I‘m not going that large at any time ...)

Hi, Joe, Do you remeber thickness of plywood sheets that was cut in this video? I would like to try laser cutting but I think my laser could cut only 3mm thick plywood
@Joe_VanCleave9 ай бұрын
I think it was 6mm.

Very cool camera and execution. Ethan, you mention at the end that they are available, but I don't see them on your site.

I think he's still working out the final details of the design, before he releases them.

I never really believe Joe when he tells me that the video will be up that same night. I've still got to borrow Joe's nice looking camera and cut some more pieces for listing and instruction/construction pics. I should have it up on the website next week, available for purchase as a flat pack kit for people to assemble themselves.

Nice work! While the laser cutting machine was working, I got a flashback of the movie "Logan's Run" where the cosmetic laser went berserk! Both of you wore jackets during this video. Was there a lack of heat in the shop?
@Joe_VanCleave5 жыл бұрын
It was a bit nipply. They keep the heat turned down to reduce costs.
@DavidALovingMPF1025 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_VanCleave I guess. That's the main reason. Are you off for Thanksgiving? Ready for snow?

Nice work! but still I cant understand how the sliding back locks. Is it with clips?
@Joe_VanCleave2 жыл бұрын
I use a small wood workers spring clamp to set the focal distance. There’s enough friction to keep the back from moving if pointed other than horizontally.

@@Joe_VanCleave Thank you. I also would like to ask about the ground glass. Is it made out of organic glass?
@Joe_VanCleave Жыл бұрын
@@gabrysgabriukas Acrylic plastic is what I used. You could also use glass, it's just harder to grind to a ground glass surface for focusing.
@gabrysgabriukas Жыл бұрын
@@Joe_VanCleave understood. I am still curious what you use to grind acrylic plastic? is it sand paper? I would like to try to matt plastic because it is not as fragle as regular glass but I guess that optical properties of a glass are better than acrylic plastic.
@Joe_VanCleave Жыл бұрын
@@gabrysgabriukas I use fine a fine grade sandpaper disc on a random orbital sander. But you can also do it by hand, just use circular motions. 400 grit or finer.

Once you focused the cameras, how do you fix the two boxes relative to each other so that they not move when you insert the film holder?
@Joe_VanCleave3 жыл бұрын
I use a small clamp along the edge of the baseboard that limits how far back it can move, set to the focus position.
