with both of his parents being musicians (and his dad an amateur jazz musician too) it's not really hard to see why!

So cute! Joey Alexander and humble beginnings. He's still humble and has gotten to the level of mastery! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Really good video to show that joey didn't just miraculously develop his skill at the piano, and that he's been actively working to improve. Too many comments on Alexander's stuff says that he's a gift from god, or some genius that figured it out easier than everyone else can. It's obvious from this alone that he's worked his butt off to get to where he is now 8 years later, and is highly inspiring to me to know that he also wasn't great starting out.

If you have kids you know not many would have the focus to play this song at this young age. Joey had a love for music via his parents playing jazz for him as a child. George Benson is similar to Joey. Look up “Little Georgie Benson”. George was also a child with music in the house as his mother was an avid singer around the house and he sung with her, and his father in law played guitar and eventually taught him guitar at 10yo. Before that George played a small mandolin.

Perhaps some of the hesitancy is the 7 year old trying to judge how far he needs to stretch to actually reach the note he wants to play? I think he knows what sound he wants to make but his tiny hands have yet to catch up to his brain.

Except that there are pianists out there that have worked their butt off and will never play at his level on uptempo complex tunes. It also maps to professional sports. They all know the fundamentals. They all practice. They’re not all champions.

He had to work hard to fully realise that genius, like all musicians. That was the mans point @@MrBonnyman

His language isnt words.. hes just a kid ... his language is his connection to his instrument and each hit of the ivory makes up his expression... the kid is mind blowing and I dont know if i enjoy listening to him or watching him express more... I truly do not know but I am so happy to be able to have both. Thank you for this video xx

Honestly, I think he doesn't improvise that much in general, my guess is that a lot of it is already planned out and he plays it with minor variations.

Well, that you were once this level at 7 and his level at 11 at 26 is still remarkable, the vast majority of the population who try to learn jazz wouldn't even come close to attaining his level at 11 in a lifetime. You're obviously a terrific player. Joey is just one of those one in a billion talents.

Truly humbling to see this now amazing player was once at an attainable level. I️ take inspiration from the fact, that even the most amazing players started somewhere. Just goes to advocate with lots of hard work, you can get anywhere. Joey, you are truly an inspiration to me, and I️ can say without a doubt any others. Keep I️t up man!

I started piano at age 9, and was just starting to find middle C...then added 2 more white keys. Mastered Up We Go! Up We Go! Down We Go and Up We Go! - haha. Caravan at age 7?!! Did Joey have a teacher by then or was he still playing by ear?
