Can Joey be a star in this era? What does he need to do?
@maroon92732 жыл бұрын
No, people slept on him during his mixtapes and debut album solo including with beastcoast. Which led to the album flopping and less people supporting it. The final nail on the coffin is the pro era artist leaving the group which stunted his growth as a artist. Hopefully he will reconciled past members of pro era, so they can create and release another album with guest production from griselda records. Then he'll get his respect back as a artist/person.

Like you said, he never had that "it factor". If he didn't have it then, he certainly won't have it now. He might've been a dope rapper (as many hyped up back then, saying he was) but, that doesn't cut it. He doesn't have any charisma or personality to be a star. He's just an underground rapper.

we talk about Joey in my music criticism class all the time. it has to be absolutely discouraging to have your most known and highly regarded project be something you dropped at 16. I couldn't imagine making music I thought was way better than that, only to have it constantly compared to something that I feel like I've outgrown. I love 1999 as much as anybody (I have a signed vinyl on my wall), but I understand Joey's dilemma, he didn't wanna make boom bap forever and he teased the same album for like 3 years, probably because he knows how resistant his fans can be to change. add on constant comparisons to Steez, his inability to drop King Capital (because he can't come to an agreement with Steez's estate), the fact that he's supposed to be the leader of Pro Era, etc etc. music becomes a lot more difficult to make when there's all this added pressure. I'll listen to anything Joey drops, so I hope he's making what he wants.

I remember the first time I heard Waves and Save The Children - I fell in love with him lol and he's been the last celebrity boo that I've had. I'm glad he's branching out and doing this according to his time and schedule. Wishing him the best, music isn't what it was before. He's better off branching out and continuing to add to his portfolio.

I really dug Capital Steez more JB (RIP Capital Steez) - JB was just aight to me, and he never rose above 1999 to me - I respect he making bank with his acting, but its been a decade, he known more for his acting than rapping at this point - he would need to reinvent his sound -

I love the classic hop hop sound. Despite that though, how far would that sound really go in the modern day? Critically acclaimed but commercially cold.

Nah. But STEEZ was deffinetly a better spitter than Joey and tbh I could see STEEZ more than Joey working on a mainstream rap record. He got the better voice for it too

Joey bada$$ is in my top 5 fav emcees of all time. His career is so interesting because his mixtape discography is legendary, like flawless.. especially 1999. And his first 2 albums were received well too (I personally loved the first, not so much the 2nd though) yet people want so much more. I miss the pro era days but hey he’s a actor now I guess 🤷🏾♂️

In the still of Joey with the red suit and kinda high-top fade he kinda looked like Boosie hahaha. Anyways, this was a great video! I was always a fan of his, but didn't keep up enough to know his ins and outs. In my mind I had a bit of the same thought that this video portrayed and I like Joey for that! I like his career. Not sure if he is totally happy with it, but I'm glad he didn't become an industry artifact and remained JOEY BADASS!
