I’ve been saying this for so long. It’s unbelievable. Hire a group of refs full time where they’re only job is to study film, coordinate with each other to have consistently of calls, and go out and execute on sundays. It just has to happen in order to have any sort of consistency or just better execution across the board. Pay them well. Who the hell wants to be an nfl ref with their system now? It must be hard even fielding a good qualified group
@owl104
@owl104 Жыл бұрын
Well it’s a double edged sword, if you look at Umpires in baseball, they are full time, but are in a union. Unfortunately it’s one of those unions that are way too powerful. You can be the worst umpire in the world (Angel Hernandez), and you won’t be fired. Part time refs avoid that issue, but it’s much harder to train them. However it also *in theory* should make them more likely to be punished for blown calls, but you don’t see them being punished by New York. It’s like, the hell can the NFL do without seeming like they are screwing one party or the other

Why should they? Unlike the coaches and players, the refs are not full time. It's a secondary job for them, they don't get the benefits or pay of the players and coaches. If a player or coach gets criticism nationwide, that's fine there getting paid millions. So unless the NFL wants to pay refs a lot more, they should be content with how refs are now.

It’s really not. As long as there are humans refing games there will be errors and missed calls. But the NFL is probably the best officiated league there is. Everyone is chasing this boogeyman but I’ve never heard someone offer a solution that works. You want penalties on the officials for blown calls? So then they’re scared to blow their whistle causing way too many no calls as opposed to bad calls? You have to accept imperfection as long as human judgement is involved.
@Doctorboster

@@Carlos2Dangerous the NFL is not a well officiated league, the MLB, NHL, AND MLS(or any tier 1 soccer league). The NFL sucks, the only league that is officiated worse is the NBA. Watch the end of the Rams - Raiders game. Crosby got dragged down in two of those scoring drives and no call. Sometimes the refs miss a play, but when they are flat out obvious when the game is on the line, it really makes you question whether or not they some teams over others.

NFL refs are held to an insanely high standard and people in the comments and in this video do not understand how officiating works

@Jeffrey Decker they seem to think nfl don't hold reviews and evaluate there refs behind the scenes they also seem to think there's a massive amount of refs willing to do the job to be able to fire refs after every game

While I don’t think the Refs cost San Diego the game I do agree there’s a lack of movement by the NFL addressing it’s increasing problem with bad / missed calls. They need to finally hire full time refs I believe. I also think as we continue to see technology advance the NFL needs to make sure it’s keeping up and utilizing it.

Actually they did. If the non calls were actually made, it wouldve wiped out a touch down because Trevor got sacked on 3rd down and got pushed out pass field goal range. And then the helmet slamming gave jags an extra point. Jags coach even said they wouldve kicked the extra point if they weren't at the one.

@@jeazy1878 but those are countered by the numerous non-calls that killed several key Jags drives in the first half. Lots of missed PIs and defensive holds, including ones that contributed to interceptions. Some of the replays they showed on the jumbo screen had us Jags fans in stunned disbelief at how horrible the refs were in such an important game

You cant have 500 camaras with instant replay and slo-motion and expect to have referees acting in real time..and them be respected.
