I hate when people calling this anime "overrated" without even watching it. Before watching this anime I've always been confused why Gintama is rated so highly on MAL, but I WON'T and NEVER call an anime "overrated" without watching all the episode of it. There must be some reason why it is rated so high. Now I finished the anime, I personally think it deserves those high ratings. So people who still think Gintama is overrated without watching the anime, please be mature and try to watch the anime before bashing it for no reason.

I can give plenty of reasons why I love Gintama: 1. The characters are unique. They're crazy but sometimes also very principled. There's so much about them that you can relate to. 2. The bonds. Such as the Yorozuya and the Shinsengumi. Sure they mostly insult each other, but at the end of the day, though indirectly, they show just how beautiful their relationships are with each other. Not just these two groups, but all else in the anime. 3. It's extremely funny. There are a lot of toilet jokes and some sex jokes, but they're (usually) not the type to make you cringe or disgusted.. ok maybe not. 4. Its occasional but VERY EPIC battle scenes. Yes, Gintama is mostly comedy, but once you get to the serious parts, they're just to die for! I remember not being able to breathe just by reading the latest chapters of the manga because of them damn fight scenes. 5. It's actually quite smart. It discusses some political issues and the like. Though it wasn't evident in the first seasons, it is shown in the latest arcs that this story is really well thought. 6. The VAs are just superb. Nuff said. 7. The gorilla author is genius. Gintama's been going on for 11 years but his jokes are still funny. Though he MAY be a sadist. 8. It's a mixture of everything. Drama, action, comedy, a little bit of romance here and there. You'll never know what to expect. 9. OkiKagu //shot.

To people who are considering watching it; DON'T GIVE UP ON THE SERIES Most people think it is boring and there aren't many laughs at the beginning. Personally I on-and-off watched it till around episode 10, which is when I officially became obsessed with it. Some people love it from the beginning and some later on. Well at least give it 50 episodes before you drop it. :)

It is hands down my favorite anime of the decade, and possibly of all time. :3 If I have one complaint, it would be the one time I had an especially terrible day at work, and so I decided I would watch some more Gintama when I got home in order to cheer myself up. The show had other plans though, and trolled me with the Mitsuba arc. The chips were extra spicy that night...

Gintama has no limits, it can literally be whatever the hell they want it to be and it works, there is not "This is too much" or "this is too silly", which may be why some people might find it weird at first, but it's definitely worth the ride. There are many characters but every single one of them adds something (We will never forget you Kurokono Tasuke ;_;)7 ok, maybe we will) and among all this craziness there are beautiful life lessons. I mean, Gintoki is just such a wise man and always knows what to say ;--; This series have it all, I think there's no reason to not like Gintama except that it's too long and you gotta be patient, but it definitely pays off

I found out about gintama initially through kagura's cv kugimiya rie and it exceeded my expectation by making me discover sugita tomokazu. He's va was marvellous and I instantly loved his performance in showing every aspects of the main character gintoki. He now is one of my favourite voice actor. Ps: he is kizami in corpse party

Basically Complicated ha ha, Gintama isn't just all about comedy...actually it has different arcs that are composed of really great plots. There actually is alot of emotions, and the more you get into Gintama the funnier it gets. Also it can become really exciting to watch. They always have something new to come up with. Please see some of the actual Gintama fight scenes. Gintama is rated #1 in alot of anime lists.

I'm watching this anime together with a friend and we just LOVE it. I think I almost died several times while watching Gintama just because I was laughing so much. But, just when you get used to the comedy they throw in some of the most thoughtful drama speeches and statements that will make you cry. This series is awesome. It rewards people the further they watch. If you dont like Gintama because you only seen the first few episodes... dont make the mistake to skip it. keep watching, its so worth it.

There are so many different kinds of anime, and it would be hard to compare it to some of the shorter but higher tier kind of complete stories out there, but when it comes to long lasting comedy serials I don't think anything can beat this. this is youtube, so in order to get a better grasp of this show, I think that you should look up some clips of it. I also keep an anime list and I had been putting this show off for the longest time, which was one of the worst mistakes of my life. This is now my all time favorite anime. It is so funny that I have to pause to catch my breath or I'll suffocate from laughter. Fair warning though, there are a ton of dirty jokes. But funny all the same, they had an arc where they all turn into screwdrivers, as well as one where both the good guys and the bad guys are stuck in the bathroom together and no-one has toilet paper.

totally gintama stands out from everything I have seen in terms of hilariousness but you have to be commited to the show, but frankly gintama is more hilarious that any other show I have ever seen whether anime or not

episode 98 and 99 ftw. it is a big nod to gaming and is one of the funniest two episodes I have seen. especially since I enjoy video games. have a look at it because Elder weapon

The only thing I had bit difficult to keep up with gintama was the puns and jokes about Japanese daily TV shows and inside jokes..... But i loved it and it is still my best one till now

Can I vent out what I feel about Gintama, because I really need to get this off my chest. I freaking love Gintama, so much so that it's my favorite anime. but the thing is something very very stupid happened that make not hate it but hesitant to watch more. Like what Joey said, Gintama is very very very Japanese and some things don't translate well into english subs. And since most of the jokes come from japanese culture,media or other anime that probably went seen by the viewer, the people who do the subs give a small description to understand what the characters are sometimes talking about if its too difficult to understand. The sub group Rumbel did an outstanding job at the Gintama subs because they kept all the original/inside jokes in japanese which made the anime better. but sadly they stopped subbing Gintama after epiodes 130 and over. The only other sub group that did gintama was Crunchyroll. And this where my problem came In. Crunchyroll Americanized the shit out of gintama and practically ruined it for many people. what I mean is for example The original joke of Madao (The character Hasegawa) was made by the beginning characters for I believe useless old man or something like that but Crunchyroll was like no and changed the the name madao into DORK. not to mention that the yorozuya is now called Odd Jobs by Crunchyroll. The pickled seaweed that kagura always eats was changed to Literally what it is. it's like if you called as lollipop, sugar on a stick, instead of it's original name. And many many many other things that weren't supposed to be changed were changed for no good reason. All those small pet peeves piled up until you have mountain of anger. I don't think cruchyroll understand YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ORIGINAL FUCKING NAMES FROM THE DAMN ANIME. I'm at episode 156 at the moment and I really want to continue but when you constantly see things that are wrong in the subs, it's really hard to get motivated. It's sad because Gintama is my favorite anime and to see it get ruined in literally one episode was pretty hard to bare. maybe I'm just being a little bitch but how would you feel if all of the sudden every running gintama joke is suddenly not enjoyable anymore, that's how I feel and there's no way around it because no one else subs gintama from episode 130 onward, so do I keep watching even though I know I won't enjoy as much as I did in the past or just drop it.

shopparinina are you saying that there are gintama episodes 130+ where the all the original jokes and names are there? If I can ask, where did you watch them? Oh and I don't watch on crunchyroll, it's just that they're the only people that I know of that subbed gintama episodes 130+ and the website I use just uses their subs. I wish Rumbel still subbed Gintama though.

Gintama is by far my favorite series! I have read the manga fully twice, the anime once, while jumping into some of my favorite episodes when I'm bored, and I don't think I want to count the amount of times I've watched the second movie
