That makes me think about how he didn't flirt with girls much after Caitlin broke up with him. It's a subtle form of character dvelopment because it was something he DIDN'T do. He really loved her and was probably a lot more heartbroken about it than he let on. He probably also realized how ridiculous it looked and failed to charm the girls.
