Breaks my heart to see this. What a talented and humble guy. He would have made a great music teacher, talking about the practicing and the dedication kids need to have to play. So sad. A guy that's literally my short height and could play with such ferocity and aggression like he was some super, strong muscular guy and the blast beats he did, they cannot be matched by anyone else. It's almost like he had Incredible Hulk strength. Amazed by him.

Man... what a terrible loss. I remember being 11 years old and into Mudvayne when they came out around 2000. My mom let me buy the first Slipknot record not long after that and I only bought it because the artwork looked scary to my young eyes haha. “Me Inside” was the first song I listened to and I will never forget the feeling I got when I heard that double bass. Wildly improvisational, frenetic, and creative are the words that come to mind but that doesn’t do his playing justice. There’s a Latin term called Sui Generis that I love. It means “of its own kind.” That’s the only way I can accurately describe Joey’s drumming. RIP Joey. Only the good die young.

One of a kind, people need to understand how Joey was responsible for a different sound of drumming,he may not have been the best technical drummer out there, but he was the back bone of slipknot at the beginning, and throughout their rise to stardom.

Ah, this isn’t gonna come out right, but here we go: God dayum, slipknot was a hug part of my junior high + life. I remember hearing Surfacing and that double bass part (you’ll know if it was the first time it struck you with possibilities) and he was a part of the “omg this could change metal” era and I remember it fondly. thank you for doing what you did. I’m not religious, but if anyone deserves peace, it’s you brother. Man, death is such a strange thing. Natural, but it feels so wrong. Life is weird. I’ve been trying not to drink recently (for the last year or so), but fuck me if I miss out on this. We will love and miss you and that hurt makes the memory worth remembering. So the hurt I will bear, and the tears I will shed, because for you, they are worth it. Thank you again, Joey. Man, taking responsibility for those we lose fucking hurts, but builds us up. Don’t wipe the tears away, they mean something. And they deserve to be seen.

IMHO Those 2 first albums had a fierce energy. Listen to Scissors closely and hear the way he does have timing. With so many instruments playing at the same time your brain can have a hard time focusing on one. If you get a chance listen to Skinny Puppy (Too Dark Park). Live Kevin the drummer was phenomenal. Their music is multi layered.

Respect.. Still listening to mate, feed, kill, repeat. Great album. I remember when I first listened to slipknot back in 99/2000,and thinking who is this guy abusing the drums, Jesus, whe plays pa caralho, I wonder who he is, probably one of the top, some time later, bingo, wish that you could stay some time more to give me and others the pure pleasure of listening to your skills, see you on the other side brother. Respect ,admiration, and some envy for not being able to play like you did.... R. I. P.

R.I.F Joey!
