@joeylandrethmusic (only if you have time and dont mind sharing, could you ellaborate on these setting questions I had :) Thank you so much! ) @28:22 you state you turn up the mix all the way, but I feel like something else is happening here (Shallow Water). You make your guitar sound like a fretless bass. I would love to know what settings you are changing. The frame that shows the pedal is before you make the change. You do the same thing w the ring mod, and I know the Freq knob will have to be "tuned" based on what you are playing, but would love to know what settings you ended up at to get the tone you did at @30:07. I know you are using the volume for the swells, but would love to know what you changed, because the frame of the pedal shot is clearly not the settings you changed. I ended up buying both the Randy revenge and the shallow water to hopefully try to get the sounds you are getting, but am coming up quite short :(. I feel like this was a missed opportunity in this rig run down. I would love to steal these tones from you LOL Thanks again!

I was just getting into Harmonic Tremolo, after being a Uni Vibe user, for years, when I first found Joey Landreth. He gets some of the greatest modulation tones, I’ve ever heard, and it helped me find more uses for the Harmonic/Bias Trem pedal, that I have. I got the Subdecay Vagabond, because it has an attack feature, where the speed gets faster with pick attack, and slows as the volume settles, or vice versa. Ended up using the Bias a lot more than I thought I would, and with just a little bit of phaser(slow speed/depth barely up) in front of it, it makes some great tones.

When I listen to this, I hear 2 basic types of sounds that I love the most myself. I hear GIANT CHURCH ORGAN SOUNDS, then I hear that classic Brown Deluxe Z.Z. TOP sound as well. Both are just killer sounds that anyone my age (45,) should have been etched into your minds like mine I hope. Just classic sounds & the 1st 1, the church organ sound. You just don't expect to hear coming from a guitar amp. Which is what I believe makes it so much more wonderful. Thank you Joey for sharing. Have a great time playing.

Oh man, for me one of the biggest bombs in this interview was that @joeylandrethmusic finally confirmed that his Bloomfield Drive was customized some. I've had a Bloomfield for a while and it never quite did what his seemed to do (his always seemed to have more gain). It's good to hear I'm not crazy or my ears are broken. 😆

Jon used the same "tetanus" joke when doing the run down with Khruangbin. It was funny because Mark explained that Laura Lee's bass was "so clean" and Jon was shocked that his joke fell flat. Joey ran with it this time. I really enjoy watching both these guys together. Joey is so great at interviews. Jon is awesome too. I always enjoy how he brings such great energy and enthusiasm.

So, the spring before COVID, Joey came to town. I met up with him at the afternoon sound check to give him a one-of-a-kind pedal I had built that I thought he might like. We chatted for a bit and I made mention, in passing, of the red Mulecaster with the triple palm-pedal. I had only ever seen a triple in the flesh once in my life before then. In 1982, the late great Ted McCarty, of all people, who was president of Bigsby at the time, gave me a tour of the facility and started pulling these gorgeous gleaming gold palm-pedals off the shelf to show me, like a kid eager to show you the neat stuff he got for Christmas. Joey said "Here, you wanna try it?" and handed me the Mulecaster. It was, in a word, unplayable. Why? Because he strung it with .019-.063 strings. Tuned down a half or full-step, yes, but my callouses aren't THAT hard. And keep in mind he not only plays slide on that, but he frets *and* bends strings on it too. I joke with my wife that if I ever have a pickle jar that I simply can't get open, I know who to call. That fella's hand are *STRONG* .

I’m no physicist but I’ve read tuning thicker strings can be problematic because the effective vibrating length isn’t quite as long as the measured length of the string compared to thinner, more flexible strings played the same way. The string apparently acts more like a rod close to the anchor points.
