Joey thinks he's living by the code of omerta. Mafia members are not suppose to be doing interviews about other mafia members even if its to call them rats. The fact he is acknowledging that he knows all these Mafia associates that turned informants is indirectly acknowledging you were involved in the mafia

@@Plague_Doc22To be fair, historically many criminal figures put themselves in the public eye. Al Capone is the most famous gangster in history and he constantly put himself in the public eye. Not to mention multiple others before and since. And that was long before people could make money on social media, which is essentially another racket. Being in the public eye and talking publicly about illegal activity are two different things. A lot of gangsters historically have been public figures. Bumpy Johnson was a public figure, Nicky Barnes was a public figure, John Gotti was a public figure, the list can go on and on. Some gangsters find the best way to hide is in public and making additional money by being a public figure. If a criminal figure can stay completely low key, that is one thing. But if a criminal figure is already known as a criminal figure, then it is better to put oneself out there since one is already out there, as long as one is not talking about criminal activity or implicating other criminals, at least by the rules of that life. Cosa Nostra hasn’t been a secret society for several decades now.

That shrug that Joey gives to Vlad at 4:54 made me laugh so hard that I spit my drink out. The eyes never lie. One quick look and it's easy to envision Joe busting someone up with a pipe or lying in wait before he comes out of the shadows and puts 3 bullets in the back of someones head.

He has done that many times. Him and his crew went to war with Stanfa who was a backed boss by the commission. The streets of south Philly ran red for many years in the 90s.

This guy is a renegade. Supposedly New York bosses are upset and right now they are contemplating not recognizing him anymore and not doing any future business with Philadelphia. Joey's response is "go F yourself". Allegedlly.

Growing up in South Philly I met him a few times in passing. South Philly is like its own little world and everybody knows everybody. He’s exactly what you see here. Reserved and just cool as a cucumber. Doesn’t bring attention to himself.

I grew up in south Philly as well , the way Joey described growing up, i think it was pretty typical for many of us then in the 1970's . Always outside , playing sports . No air conditioning at night .
@billyangelino94111 ай бұрын
I love the way he never incriminates himself whatsoever. Very smart, few word answers. You know everyone and their brother involved in law enforcement watched and listened, waiting for him to say something, because he was found innocent for a lot of things you know damn well the government can't stand to lose. When they want you, they want you. I say, take your losses like men, he was tried by our US citizens and won. Leave the man alone and let him get on with his life, he does more for kids than celebrities with hundreds of millions of dollars do and is a real man in my opinion because he never denied doing anything illegal and knew what could happen, but, unlike a lot of guys, took every loss like a man and did his time and kept his mouth closed, except to eat. That's why I love Merlino like he was my long lost brother, I grew up the same way. Dad, whom I lost last year, always told me, son, if you choose to willingly do something stupid or,God for bid, illegal, don't call me for bail, and keep your mouth shut and take your licks like a man,never Rat, because you chose to get involved.
