Dawson only noticed Joey when she wasn't being who she was. He noticed her at the beauty pageant when she was all dolled up like the other girls. He noticed her when she was more like Jen than she was like Joey. But Pacey fell in love with Joey when she was annoying the crap out of him, when she was nagging him, glaring at him, and being the annoying straight A student she is. Dawson fell for the idealized version of Joey that existed in his head and Pacey fell for the real Joey. Pacey taught Joey how to let loose every once in a while and showed her it was okay to come out of her shell. And Joey taught Pacey how to take things a little more seriously. Pacey was Joey's rock. He was there when she needed someone to take her to see her dad in the middle of the night and when she needed a shoulder to cry on. Joey was the only person in Pacey's life that ever truly challenged him to be a better person. He's better because of Joey's influence on him.

Can I make one more comment? The other day I read a comment in another edit - lately I'm obsessed with PJo - that said Dawson liked the idea of loving Joey. And honestly, I agree with that. He idealized their relationship a lot. He was so obsessed with this soul mate idea that he didn't experience a real love relationship. Okay, I also admit that the Dawson character pisses me off 100% of the time. hahahaha. When he says "Do you think you can compete with history?" I wish I could meet him on the street and say "yes! I understand all these edits people do of them with these famous songs,especially because they had a very complex and deep relationship,so almost all of that songs fit them very well. I just feel like people shouldn't put songs when the female singer is saying bad stuff about the guy,like this one for example. Cause for heave's sake Pacey was the best boyfriend ever and till this day he still is one of the best male character ever created. He had issues? Sure. But phrases like "i just can't imagine how you could be so okay now that i'm gone" or of "i guess you didn't mean what you wrote in the song about me"... are just so not him that is actually very wrong to put that and mix with the scenes like it fits when it obviously doesn't. I love how these edits are good but every time i see something trying to do dirt to Pacey,or somehow try to paint him as a bad boyfriend...i can't watch,cause he was an incredible boyfriend and he deserves to be forever remembered as such.

That’s completely fair enough. Pacey was a great guy and I don’t think anybody out there thinks otherwise haha. In reference to the song I do think these lines refer to more like the raw emotions of a fresh break up rather than trying to disparage someone’s character. Also as you can see in this video the POVs mix so on those two lines you mentioned the singer is technically from Pacey’s POV rather than Joeys though I feel it works for both as their breakup was very messy!
