MrNorthernSol English punk was very diverse - Rotten may not have liked them, but the arrival of the first Ramones album was a huge influence on many bands, who were probably listening to the Stooges and MC5 also (and Patti Smith, and Television... and the Saints...) and for many it was just down to how fast they could learn not to sound awful so they could get out there and be part of their local scene... which was what made it exciting for all concerned.

The Ramones are easily the most underrated band EVER. They deserve to be more famous than the Beatles

An original on so many levels. Looks, persona, and most of all, stage presence. And then there's all the songs. RIP, Joey.

its brilliant how he asks to hear the entry version of Blitzkrieg Bop again and that he believed they did it well. It sure is a great honor to hear someone like Joey say something like that.

First time I saw the Ramones was 1978 in Chicago, paid a $2 cover charge and the club wasn't even half full. I left with my ears gloriously bleeding, and told all my friends to throw away their progressive rock albums, that I had just seen the future of rock music. They laughed at me and told me that punk rock sucks. Wasn't long afterwards that they were wearing Ramones T-shirts and playing air guitar along with their records.

one thing ive always heard about Joey, he had an amazing collection of old 45's, and could name you the B sides and labels on 60's classic garage and psych and beat songs. and thats what i love, rockstars, musicians that actually worship and love the music. one of the many things i think is missing these days, where bands get accused of sounding like some older band and then they claim they dont even know who that band is. how does that make things better, the fact that you are a musician with no god damn knowledge of the history and roots of the music you play.

I was Lucky enough to see them 35 times. I went to the last show at the Palace. I met all the members thru the years by stage diving. And met Joey off stage at the US armory in Carpenteria Ca. They Changed my Life in 1978.
