Thank you! You're the first person actually encouraging to make manga, not only that, but to fulfill your dreams. I have always been a very naive person, having the biggest dreams, but these years I have kind of lost that, and I didn't really know why. But I have thought about it, and it's me listening to all these people (parents, "experts", friends etc.) that drags me down to earth, telling me to forget about it, that it's impossible etc. I once (sounds like I'm really old now, but I'm actually only 21) drew a lot of manga pictures, and made my own story. But I never really got anywhere, but after this vid, I am determined to get back on track to fulfill my dream.

anime is 'frowned upon' in my college level Art class. I find that so sad because anime IS a type of art. i'm sick of seeing traditional still life art. yes i like drawing animals but dammit i love drawing anime.

annamerrikat to be honest drawing life has helped me in drawing manga. you learn anatomy, to draw in different poses, angles and perspectives. you can always cartoonize/manga-ize(?) your drawings and find your own style

I have a friend that was always telling me how I shouldn't draw from reference all that time, he would gloat and tell me he drew from his mind. I'm glad he told me about this because I was just coping from books. He later told me that none of my manga characters looked like manga. Just about a month ago in school, I saw him drawing a manga character from his ''mind''. At this point I had learned about using reference correctly and was even drawing realism pretty well. Anyway, so I walked up to him and said: '' Nice drawing, but your arm is wrong''. He told me: ''It's my arm''. I explained to him that the anatomy of the arm was wrong. He told me: I don't care It's my arm. I was really pissed off I just walked away and continued drawing a study of the human figure. *Soon I'm gonna surpass him and be able to draw anything from my mind.*

berniemacsgreatesthi Actualy she never say's that my drawing is good, she say stuff like: 'hmm' or 'it looks wierd' or the most annoying 'it looks like him/her from this anime' while this drawing is from my fantasy and is my original character!! I hate it! While I always say to her that the drawing looks good (sometimes it looks wierd but I dont want to hurt her) I don't know what to do.... But yeah she must understand that not everyone has the same artstyle like her. And to tell the truth I draw beter the human bodies than her ( she always draw faces), I'm not telling that I am the best but thats the truth and she knows that but she never say something good for me.

I'm an American 14 year old girl and my dream is to become a manga artist, but am always discouraged by a lot of things mentioned in your video. While I may not be a manga author or anything, but I am working on a series of books. The art that I do for it is in the manga/anime style. It will be awesome to one day publish my books, and see my art on the covers! Probably that same feeling you were talking about in regards to a manga being made into anime. It's all about the passion for creation, creating your own world and drawing it out. To me at least! If one doesn't have the passion, one can hardly sit at their desk/work space for hours to draw/color/evolve their art/writing styles. I think it was this video actually that helped get me out of one of my 'funks' in drawing/writing a couple years back. Glad I found this again!

Thank you, i've been drawing since i was freshmen. Anime was jut a silly hobby my cousins did. well one day my cousin Grim sat me down and taught me how to draw. since that day i was hooked, her silly hobby became my love and passion, and to this day...I am working on getting my manga/ art work published.It stopped for a while when i lost hope my work was ever going to be seen yet.i had strangers read my stuff and they were really happy with my work. Its soo true though that coming up with a story is the hardest part. I used to work on my own manga called 'Crucifixion' and I had to redo the introduction of the manga 4 times! And still it isn't really that good. I would show my classmate otaku to get some feedback. And they would say the art style is great and everything, but its sooo cliche!! Right now I'm working with a friend on 2 mangas called 'DR0N3' and 'Balmung', the story is going to be great.

I can relate. I had an Art teacher that would critique my drawings because it was about Anime. I did not care because Anime was the only I love the most. I'm studying to be a Nurse so I know anatomy pretty well and I have been drawing manga style since I was in elementary and as I got older I started to draw realistically. It's good to practice other styles. It really helps you with art. In a manga or anime to have a realistic training really helps to make good backgrounds and if you are to draw say a dragon, you could make that session pop and look terrifying.

I had a lot of trouble with my teachers who didn't want me to draw manga at first too. But now I know they are right. I've tried a hundred different styles since I began drawing manga, and it's really difficult, but I learn a lot from it. Really, every single style has something you can learn from, and even just drawing something boring like a closet or a street, you learn more from it than you could ever do with just drawing manga, and you can use all that experience to make your manga skills even better. So really, I'm very grateful to my teachers for opening my world, because I now even enjoy drawing realistically now and then, and it's very iinteresting to draw the same thing in different styles. :)

I'm quite young so I'd prefer to not say my age but I love the style of anime and drawing manga. In fact once I thought I wasn't getting better because my lines were bad and I couldn't think however I also stopped for a month...When I got back to drawing I couldn't copy others but I could do my own style. I'm not saying you should stop for a few weeks but you can take some breaks.

Its crazy, I just read Beast Master and bought the manga. I'm currently reading Bakuman and Death Note :3 and also your so cool and you helped me believe that its not. Impossible. Most people are like, "that's 1 in a million" or like in Bakuman. When they say it just a gamble. But if you work hard enough and have determination to be a manga artist, you CAN do it!! This video helped alot! Thanks!! You gave me hope!! ^-^

Liatening to u talk makes me really wannaimprove now.. im currently studying animation in singapore, singapore doesnt really support animations, whenever i look at other people's work i feel really depressed because i always felt that my work is worse than theirs.. but after listening to u, i finally came to my senses, my art will have my own style and will definitely nt be the aame as the others. I'm glad I saw this video. I sometimes do what you were satying, not copy work, I can't even do that anymore, but I draw one picture and leave for the rest of the day. Now that I think about it drawing isn't easy now and it ain't gonna get easier if I go pro. Thank you for this and I hope you make as a manga artist
