I'm honestly impressed how consistent you are with your transition game. This man cant be stopped.

I've always done it on drum shells but vocals and rear bus is definitely interesting. Would you send vocals to both it's own parallel compress and the rear bus parallel compression?
@Sense_of_Insight Жыл бұрын
If you are using parallel compression, do you send the tracks before or after doing other moves such as their own bit of compression or eqing?
@Eurodrummer666 Жыл бұрын
I would recommand doing your usual compression moves first, to get your sounds in check (if they need to be, there is no hard rule). Then doing the parallel compression. If your tracks need to, same thing.

@@Sense_of_Insight no problem dude.
@Eurodrummer666 Жыл бұрын
@@Sense_of_Insight oh, just one thing. The interest of parallel compression VS individual compression is you can go overboard with it while the regular comp for your individual shells is usually more conservative (but again, no hard rule).
@Sense_of_Insight Жыл бұрын
@Eurodrummer666 that makes sense as to why the parallel compression can really hype the drums up. Thanks for helping break that down!

Can you please explain why you would only do Parallel comp on the entire mix in dual-mono?

i never thought of using the maximizer on drum shells in paralell.....that plugin is really great but it does so much im not sure ill ever really be able to harness how powerfull it really is

Excellent vid here Joey! If Parallel Compression is used on the entire mix using a few different compressors, does that override the need to have a stereo compressor on the two bus? I went back to using analog Mackie 32-8 bus console and that board has submaster inserts for parallel compression, and it also has stereo main inserts for two bus compressor so, I’m thinking should I not use a two bus compressor if I’ll do the parallel technique on all tracks. I have 4 outboard compressors. What are your thoughts man?

If I wasn't already subscribed, I would have for that transition.

For the rear bus technique, you said "make sure you're sending it in dual mono." I'm a little confused about how you can send something in dual mono. I understand the idea of setting your parallel compressor to dual mono. But that's not "sending it in dual mono." That's "sending it into a compressor set to dual mono." Is that what you meant? Or is there some other technique I'm not understanding?
@fattommy4436 Жыл бұрын
Nah you got it - you send the tracks - mono/stereo/whatever they happen to be - to the rear bus aux, which is a stereo summing bus. You have a compressor inserted on that bus in dual mono mode. It treats the left and right channels independently. If the compressor was in stereo, it would treat them identically. If an extra instrument plays or there’s a loud part on say, the left channel, which increases the total volume of that side - a stereo compressor will squash down on both sides at that moment. If there’s no extra volume on the right channel it will make that side quieter than it should be and make the mix feel like it’s pulling to the left. If the comp is in dual mono, it will simply clamp down on the left channel and leave the right channel alone, so the right channel will be consistent, and the left side will too, because it’s been compressed. It’s common to compress very heavily on the rear bus and kill the transients with very short attack times and very long release times, and set it at a very low level just to add some fullness and detail to the sound. You kill the sounds in front to bring forward the quieter sounds. Dual mono lets you bring the quiet sounds up evenly between both sides/channels 🤌🏼

Question for Miami; do you always try to to the rear bus compression with a FET compressor or can you try it with other types of compression?

How come you’d make sure the parallel comp on the mix bus is mono? Wouldn’t that cause phasing issues or negatively affect your stereo image?
@caliblittle8086 Жыл бұрын
He said dual mono I’m pretty sure. So there would still be a stereo image.

I wonder if that's what he meant? Either way, you definitely don't want to use straight-up mono. That's not gonna work at all.

Would you use the Vocal Glue Parallel Compression separately from your main vocal bus glue? Like Say your output goes to a Glue with BOLD. But then you fade in a paralleled Squashed one. I hope this makes sense sorry
