Impossible FreeCell Game

This game was "beaten" with a restart glitch, which you see in the beginning. Whether you believe it is cheating or not, I don't care. I acknowledge that this game is truly impossible if you don't use the glitch.
I can't provide a source, but I heard someone ran mathematical simulations that proved this game is impossible.

If FreeCell is regarded as a mathematical puzzle, wherein you're given a layout of cards, a set of rules for manipulating the cards, and a specific objective, then you have failed to solve that puzzle. If FreeCell is regarded as an electronic game, then you have beaten the game using this astonishing glitch. This glitch fascinates me in the same way as other game-breaking glitches, such as the route for beating Super Mario 64 with 0 Stars. You're breaking the rules the developer intended, but the computer can only make calculations, and according to its calculations, you got all 52 cards up to the foundations, even thought those calculations are based in part on something the developer didn't intend (like undoing a phantom move to move a card to an illegal position, or passing through walls by using backwards long jumps to attain absurdly high movement speeds).

If the "set of rules for manipulating the cards" is defined as "whatever the program allows to be done to the cards", then he actually solved the puzzle. The only problem is that he solved the wrong puzzle because the program failed to implement the puzzle known as FreeCell correctly. So, I would call the puzzle here "Gremlin Glitch FreeCell" and under these rules this impossible #11982 is solvable. The "Gremlin Glitch FreeCell" is defined as FreeCell with an additional supermove you can perform. This additional supermove is only valid after you move a card between two piles on the tableau. Now assume you moved a card from pile S (source) to pile D (destination). To the "Gremlin Glitch Move" is then executed in two steps: 1. Restore the card layout to the initial startup position (in the program done by the "Restart Game" command). 2. Move the bottom card from pile D to pile S, ignoring the packing rules (in the program done by executing the "Undo" command). The glitch is that when you restart the game, the program fails to clear the Undo buffer. The content of the Undo buffer stores the S and D piles on the tableau if the move was a tableau move, therefore "Undo" done immediately after a restart moves a card from the D pile to the S pile.

So there really are unsolvable ones, hu? This is so frustrating. I prided myself in being able to solve every FreeCell game and as pathetic as that is, that was actually a bit important to me because I'm generally not that good at such games and puzzles. I did the first 10 000 in ascending order and then started playing random games and just noting the difficult ones I solved in a text document list and now, after two years of that, #11982 popped up for the first time. I have been trying to solve it for 2 hours and felt like such a horrible failure when I finally gave in and looked for help with Google, only to find out it actually is unsolvable. They should have put a warning into the game that pops up when your random generator spits that one out. I might have gone crazy over this if I wouldn't have looked it up eventually and my pride almost wouldn't let me.

They ran a computer solver on that game which tried all possible card moves and didn't find a solution. That sounds like mathematical proof to me.

I was using my old HP Netbook running Windows 7 for downloading from Torrent and I played Free Cell to pass time like I did years before when the latest Windows was Windows 7. I have played thousands of Free Cell games and I have encountered really tough ones but solved them all that I believed some mathematicians who conjectured that every Free Cell game has a solution - until I encountered 11982.

I had won 13001 games in a row before hitting this one again - since there are 32,000+ possibilities, I hoped I would not hit again so soon - in 17797 games, I have lost 3, and 11982 is two of them - I must have tried 30-50 times - FRUSTRATED!

I have won 120x-in-a-row and started to look to see if there are harder games and then saw 11982 as impossible. I tried a few times and you can't really get a start as the way the cards are placed all seem to dead end. You soon realize, this isn't a typical game. I suppose after several games of not seeing a path forward, one starts to look for tips and tricks and glitches. Is this cheating? In Vegas, the casinos sued a player who won by counting cards and claimed cheating. They thought they had an open and shut case until the judge said he thought the player was just increasing his chances of winning. Thus, they changed the rules of the game to use multiple decks, reshuffle when the casino likes and define cheating to favor themselves. What is cheating exactly if it's in the game (albeit software) and not defined as cheating?

This does not work in Windows 7. They changed the way the restart works and when you click restart the undo is greyed out.

Can someone please explain the "Freecell undo restart glitch" ? What does the "glitch" actually do? I understand that in this video, at 0:18 (after the "Restart"), he clicks "Undo" (when there are actually no moves to be undone), and the 8 "magically" moves on top of the 5. This seems to be the "Freecell undo restart glitch" (cheat). But does the glitch always do the same thing on every game... "move the card at the bottom of column 2 to the bottom of column 8? Or does it do different things in different game boards?

lol i told my father to try it, he has been trying for over 2 days now and more than 30 attempts, he said he would refuse to look up the answer on the internet and will keep playing 11982 untill he solved it. I wonder when he will find out it isnt possible in a non-cheat way.

Uploader, I have some bad news for you. Despite your clever cheat, you did not actually beat the game. In fact, you lost. Whenever you restart a FreecCell game, it counts as a loss. To verify, check statistics before and after your restart. You will observe that restarting adds a loss. Your solution via glitch does not even add a win to the statistics, making the supposed win merely illusory. You may have suckered yourself, but not FreeCell. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Cool trick. You found a solution to a computer game that is very similar to freecell but allows you to stack 8d on 5h on your first move. Yeah. I did it by reordering all the cards. Yeah for me. But you are wrong (disingenuous) when you say you found a solution to the impossible #11982, because it is only impossible when one is following the orthodox freecell rules. Otherwise, it is like saying you solved P vs NP by taking out the N. This is not the Matrix.
