Hyunwoo-ssi, I love how skilled you are at teaching! You often know how the students will think or what we will be confused about as you are teaching. As an aspiring teacher, I hope to be like you as well! So in a nutshell, 좋아하다 is when you like something in general, while 마음에 들다 is when you liked something? Like the example with the movie. I like this movie *in general* vs I *liked* this movie.

I think in French we also have something similar "plaire" -> 마음에 들다 and "aimer" -> 좋아하다. And the subject follows the same logic like "ce cadeau me plait" -> the present is the subject and "j'aime ce film" -> the movie is the object. I don't know if maybe I can help someone ;) 이 비디오를 만들어줘서 감사합니다 !

Why cant we use 좋아하다 in this circumstance, given the person has already lived in the place (presumably) for some time ( and passed the "entering heart" phase) ? Thank you and welcome aboard! You can use 좋아하다 when your sense of liking something is already quite well established. When you see or experience something for the first time, you can only say 마음에 들다.

So, essentially, asking someone: "마음에 드는 거 있어요?" Is like asking "Does anything peak your interest?" So "마음에 들다" is like "to interest" or "be interested" in something? While "좋아하다" is when you attach feeling to something. Like, I can say that a trying a particular dish interests me (마음에 들다) and then after trying it, I can say that I like or dislike it (좋아하다). 이거 맞는건가요?

It’s a lot to explain but they all are the same however there are some grammars that require you to use ~기 (for example you can’t use ~는 것 with saying “doing (verb) is + adjective” you have to use ~기), and there are times where it is more natural to use ~음 or ~는 것

My Jagiya My Jagiya 아주 is more formal, and can sound sarcastic if used in a casual setting. However, it translates to “very” in every case I can think of. When speaking 존댓말, it is perfectly fine to use it, but do remember it has a formal nuance to it. 너무, on the other hand, can assume two meanings: “too” and “so”. The first meaning, “too” is used to say “too much” (너무 많아요) or “too difficult” (너무 어려워요), for example.* The second meaning is “so”, as in “you are so pretty” (너무 예뻐요). 너무 is what I would use to compliment someone, as it sounds a bit more natural than saying 진짜/정말 (really). There really is no way of telling what meaning it assumes apart from deducing it from context. *”Too” as in “me too” or “also” is 도. TTMIK has an excellent lesson on it if you want to check it out. My Jagiya 너무 originally means “too” (like “too much”) in a kind of negative way. But it is now used to also say things like 너무 좋아해요 (I like it so so much / I really love it) or 너무 좋아요 ((it’s/that’s) very nice/good). If you’ve ever listened to the song very very very by i.o.i, you can see it being used there An example of 너무 being used in a negative way would be the expression “너 너무 해” which means something like “you’re too much/ you’re too mean” 아주 just means “very” and can also be used when saying things like 아주 좋아요 (it’s/that’s very nice). but 아주 doesn’t have a negative meaning like 너무 can sometimes have, and so the two words aren’t always interchangeable. I think the problem here isn't Korean, but English. Many other languages have exactly this expression: German has "[...] gefällt mir", French has "[...] me plaît", Spanish "[...] me gusta", Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian "svidja mi se [...]" and so on and so forth. I know this channel is mainly directed at English speakers, but there are a bunch of other foreigners watching as well. Maybe it would be nice if you guys could include some other examples if you have the chance?

Good question! written same in Korean but different verbs 들다 to lift/ is more common 들다 to enter/ is less common 상을 든다 --> is lifting a 상(a small table) 마음에 든다 --> entering someone's 마음(heart)
