The first iQFOiL International Games of the season has come to an exciting close in Marina Rubicón, Lanzarote, after five days of intense racing featuring the world’s best iQFOiL athletes. With strong winds, shifting conditions, and a new Medal Series format, the racing kept us on the edge of our seats until the very end!
Women’s Fleet:
Emma Wilson (GBR 🇬🇧), 2024 Olympic bronze medalist, proved unstoppable throughout the week. As the leader of the Opening Series, she entered the Grand Final with one race win already secured and clinched the title with a flawless victory in the first race. Shahar Tibi (ISR 🇮🇱) defended her second-place position, while Islay Watson (GBR 🇬🇧) fought her way through the Quarter-Final and Semi-Final to claim an impressive third place. Anastasia Valkevich (POL 🇵🇱) finished just outside the podium in fourth.
Men’s Fleet:
Johan Søe (DEN 🇩🇰) delivered a stellar performance, bouncing back after a crash in the first Grand Final race to secure the win in the second race, earning him the first iQFOiL title of 2025. Nicolò Renna (ITA 🇮🇹) kept the battle alive by winning the first final, finishing second overall. Manolo Modena (ITA 🇮🇹) had an outstanding run in the Medal Series, climbing his way from the Quarter-Final to third place. Kiran Badloe (NED 🇳🇱) also showed great consistency, advancing to fourth from the early rounds.
With 100 athletes from 26 nations, this event marked the beginning of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle in style. It was also the first time the new sails were raced, with athletes adapting quickly to the changes. The Medal Series format introduced an exciting twist, proving to be a true test of strategy, skill, and consistency.
A massive thank you to Marina Rubicón and the organizers for delivering a world-class event.
