When you think of Wilder’s lack of skills when he began boxing, it’s impressive to see his range in this fight…movement, covering up, his range of shots…he has worked hard at his trade. Plus, as others have said here, his opponent was frighteningly tough and determined. Great contest.

Props to Deontae???? He looked like trash. From what I watched he hit the man on the gloves most of the time and maybe 1 in 10 hits landed whereas the other fighter was leading him, out jabbing him landing counter punches and power punches. Wilder looked like his typical self, ordinary and exhausted fighting sloppy as hell. This fight was stopped to soon and the ref stole this fight from the Frenchman. Wilder is garbage.

I remember this fight. Johann was tough but not even close to world class, every time he stepped up beyond European level he lost. His best wins were against Helenius and Charr who were European title challenger level at most. Johann hit Wilder with so many jabs and right hands but unfortunately throughout his career never really showed the power to mix with the best. As for Wilder I think it was fights like this that convinced Fury that a fight with Wilder was made for him. Once thing that you can never criticise Wilder for is lack of heart, he is a warrior and will be dangerous for every second of every round however, but he will always be hobbled by his lack of technique, especially defensive technique. And before anyone raises his power, he is a truly excellent power puncher but nowhere near the power of the real legendary power punchers of the past in the HW scene
@hakshustletv
@hakshustletv 6 ай бұрын
Well put, that's the 2 things that trouble Wilder. Lack of technique, poor defense and I would actually add predictability which is also because he just isn't a very skilled boxer. You know he's going to go "jab, straight" leaving him open to numerous counters, however, his one punch power is what has gotten him to where he is, he's not a boxer that you can just dominate for 7 rounds straight and think you've got him covered, in ANY round at ANY moment he just needs to land once and he knows that.
@michaelcarrig627
@michaelcarrig627 6 ай бұрын
I agree with almost all that you say. I do believe Wilder has all-time power, he just lacks the precision and ability to setup clean punches. Guys like Foreman, Tyson, Liston, and Shavers were able to control distance through footwork and the jab. So it just doesn’t translate the same.

He knocked Robert helenius out. No question that he fought very well in this fight. Not many men would keep coming back, wilder absolutely caved his face in Andhra just kept coming and even doing ok. Wilder was really good in this fight, really fast 1-2, great Rio to the body and explodes in round 11, I don't see any other HW doing that to be honest. In round ELEVEN after a hard fight, he's got power to spare even then! That's out there.

@@John-14-6 Yes, I did listen to it. They mentioned Duhaupas landing blows about 7 times. The mentioned Wilder far more, even when his punches missed or landing on the gloves. No consistent shots to the body... No slipping & countering... No pull counters... And for God sakes, look at how his head never leaves the center line! Too bad we'll never see that fight :( Wilder would have no defense against Mike Tyson. It is too late to swing the hands around when Mike is on his hook distance. Tyson Fury could probably go the distance. The sheer mass and the strong chin may have helped him to absorb the bombs Mike throws. But I would bet on Mike's win by decision anyway.

Wilder has two skills. Powerful punch. Good chin. He’s a below average boxer. No defence. He’s so easy to hit and by a slow handed plodder at that. He won’t beat any good fighters ever again.

Hey this is the best boxing I have ever seen from D Wilder. He was putting together well thought out combinations. He made legitimate attempts at out boxing his opponent vice ONLY looking for the knock out. Whoever is training him now he should keep. He also, look like his wind has improved. That French dude was very tough and Wilder wore him down with real boxing.
