If this ain't great music, what is? For a Michael Haydn symphony it is unusually long clocking at 37 min. but I love every note of it! In particular, the long first movt. is a gem.

Beautiful and charming symphony! The music we like often creates sensations within us also of images and places. This symphony, very sentimental, from the first movement, gives me the impression that in a royal palace the doors open and I arrive where there is a beautiful room where I see couples in love happily dancing in a joyful party atmosphere. It was probably composed for that reason. Who knows....

I have no clue about it, sorry.

Magnificent! Symphony like this and his gorgeous Messe make me wonder, again, why JM Haydn is not better known.

Such a good piece of music. And the English horns in the slow movement are so good! Love the drums and fifes as well in the fast movements. Thank you for this upload :-)

Absolutely magnificent, an excellent Symphony from a true talented genius. I wonder if the brothers Haydn ever collaborated on any works.

Occasionally perhaps, but not as a common way of life. Michael Haydn's output was mainly sacred and focused in Salzburg. Joseph Haydn had an international career so they did not really in touch as often as they would like...

@@JohannMichaelHaydn17371806 It seems that musicologists have the tendency to atribute works of outstanding quality to the likes of Mozart and Haydn, even if there is no stylistic resemblance. This hidden gem was once attributed to F.J. Haydn too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5qaoaRujLShrJY

I understand why... Anton Zimmermann (1741-1781) was an outstanding composer! I have symphonies, masses, chamber music and sonatas by him and whole of them are wonderful! Plenty recommended!

@@JohannMichaelHaydn17371806 I agree. One of the finest composers from central Europe of his generation. I am familiar with a few symphonies, at least two concerti for double bass, and string quartets. But you mentioned he composed masses as well?
@JohannMichaelHaydn173718063 жыл бұрын
Indeed. At least two masses are already recovered. One of them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZO2Z2Boj7qMfs0
