Since first seeing this vid I have returned to Joburg, visited Alex, been out on night shift patrol with SAPS... the old SA I knew so well from the days of my youth is gone. Still a hell of a buzz going on though. One of a kind, nowhere else quite like it. BTW couldn't find Cashless Society CDs in any of the shops I tried, but you have converted me into a Perceptionists fan! Dankie my swaer!

Roughly between 5-25 million Rand, Those big houses in Houghton are some of the oldest houses in JHB, they are considered ' old money' whereas Sandton is considered 'new money'

My Joburg ... damn, you cant not love the place ... despite everything its still the block that i chipped off ... love ya Jozi!
@goonerfromjhb15 жыл бұрын
Thats between 1.8 to 2.5 million rand, you can still get a massive house anywhere for that price. I'm from the south of JHB, Mondeor, Meredale, Glenvista, Glenanda, Ridgeway are all decent areas. In the North places like Rosebank, Parktown, Parkurst, Sandton, Houghton and further North places like Midrand or Randburg are full of good newly built properties

Public transit sucks in many SA cities so some township guys got the idea to transport people using vans(called taxis)) It is a huge business now. Joburg has now put the first leg on an express busway with stations throughout the city. High marks so far.

@goonerfromjhb16 жыл бұрын
The delivery-vans are taxis, basically you cant get any rougher than Joburg city and Hillbrow(2:54mins) unless you go to the townships/shanty towns. for the most part of the video these streets are dangerous enough during the day, but at night they're pretty much no go areas. If you go into the townships and film, you'd run a serious risk of having your nice camera taken off you at gunpoint, & your car, lol
@Munchkinross13 жыл бұрын
The whole section between 2:18 and 2:50 has changed, they closed 2 lanes and is supposed to be used for the rapid bus transport system. I work near there, and not once have I actually seen a rapid bus on this road, and they took 2 years to turn them into bus lanes with a terminal. Damn new government wasting taxes like this makes me sick. Can't wait for the DA to take this city away from the anc.

@mautwana It is a fact that Johannesburg is dangerous, it has statistically been in the top 5 cities for murders, robberies, and rapes for the past decade. Travelers also have their fair share of problems while traveling there. I know this because it is a fact that isn't hard to find. As for the ugly part, that is just an opinion but I guess I'm just used to beautiful infrastructure. You don't have to go there to know this general knowledge about the city.

im sorry but i was born in johannesburg and lived there half my life and i absolutely love the country but johnrhysmusician is right, the streets are dirty, there's rubbish everywhere, there are gangs and robbers but that doesn't mean your going to be shot when you walk around the streets in the middle of the day. It is a beautiful place but it is not a clean city and i was born and raised around dark africans, im not a racist.

Biggest city in Africa, Biggest flavour on the continent, make no mistake, its no place for being incompetent, this place will hit you bigger than a comet, it'll leave you saying ' no no, I haven't got it! if you got the money, dont flaunt it, plenty out there who have the dreams, just not easy cause they dont have the means, some get needy others get greedy, a combination that'll kill you with speedy, and believe me theres plenty to see, but dont get stupid and you wont end up R.I.P!

lol Oh Dear.. *sigh* This video was taken in 2006. What the hell do you know about South Africa you live in Texas. If you go into the CBD today you will notice how clean the streets are and how the vendors have been moved off. Property is boomin, places are being renovated all over the CBD, even Ponte City has been sold for re-development my friend ! Stay in Texas and forget about South Africa. You dont want us and we certainly dont want you.
