I haven't been to Bree Street since the 1980's and I don't recognise anything in your video. I used to work in Jorissen Street in early 1980's, a company named Computer Sciences Ltd. I did my apprenticeship there, then the company later moved to Kramerville. I think they were eventually taken over by Plessey. I used to go with my friends to Hillbrow for nights out on the town. I hear it is a bit of a dodgy area these days. Just joined your channel and looking forward to watching more of your videos to see what I can remember 🙂

I was there in 2015, my friends drove me around the city and warned me not to look anyone in the eye or show my camera at intersections. We also went into a couple of shops and an Indian restaurant. I am a white Eastern European and I found the city and its people incredibly strange and dangerous. Like some crazy set for Star Wars.

I grew up in JHB 60 years ago and there were always some scruffy and dodgy areas. Watch Walk Africa's videos of the better suburbs, like Rosebank, the CBD is just a relatively small part of JHB which is really enormous now!

They are mainly people trying to survive in a hard city. You can't blame them for the bad municipal services. They could litter less but that is such a superficial problem. Many of these people are supporting families in other countries and have a lot of pressure on them. Respect the fact that they doing an honest day's work

Durban beachfront, Capetown, Pretoria suburbs, Soweto, most of the old "townships" are now lovely suburbs. Not to mention the vast national parks and stunning scenery all over the entire country.
