I grew up listening to ted neeley do this song. I personally think that that is the best version of it for the material. Its raw and visceral and taps straight into your emotions. This is probably the second best I've ever heard, and I've listened to just about all of them. Jesus Christ superstar is one of my all time favorite movies. It brings different genres of music together to tell the most unifying story.

EXCELLENT, I love how he flawlessly blended the softer, more operatic style that the Broadway versions use with the Gillan/Neeley-esque hard rock distortion.

I wouldn't say that John murdered the piece, but he was very miscast. As much as I liked Legend's interpretation of character, he just couldn't get those notes. Not his fault, but definitely a bad casting decision.
