When I was a young boy and I lived with my Grandmother and uncle I often witnessed my uncle John Jo splashing a little whiskey on his face after shaving himself then he would taste it to make sure that it was of the best quality. , My uncle brewed his own whiskey it was my job to wash out used lemonade, wine, and other whiskey bottles and remove their old labels. My uncle was a very hard working man, during the day he walked high mountains of connemara shepherding his sheep, On cold winter nights my uncle and I traveled near and far doing our best to avoid Garda Síochána delivering his special whiskey to many different houses, we always kept a sheepdog in the back seat with 2 walking sticks so when we were stopped by the GARDA we say we after looking at the sheep. I was always treated well but I never received any money and I did not ask for any payment. My uncle is still alive and someday soon I return and knock on his door, talk about old times, I would never talk about the money that he made. Some years later I learned that my uncle and I were breaking the law of the land as we dealing in the banned spirit called potcheen, We broke the law and we got away Scot Free

The puns of Irish whiskey. Tullamore DEW was first made by one Daniel E Williams. Powers Whiskey, known as the Three Swallows Brand, only had the three swallows illustration on the miniatures, because there were three swallows in the bottle.

Some of the great Irish Whiskies I've tried in my time: Jameson, Powers, Paddy, Bushmills, Teeling, Redbreast, Tullamore Dew, Dingle, Connemara, & most recently Slane Irish Whiskey. Sláinte!

I was watching some old GAA matches on TV from the 60s and 70s. There was a Paddy's Whiskey sign on the pitch but it was spelt without the "E" Whisky.

The old books say that leprecy was once prevalent in Ireland until the arrival of whiskey. It was considered a cure for many ailments.

If you drink enough of it, you wouldn't care whether it cured you or not.

All the research on alcohol points out the genetic factors, and this has definitely played out in my own family. My father was an alcoholic and my mother never allowed alcohol to pass her lips, except for communion wine. And out of 7 children, 2 are hardcore alcoholics like my father, and the rest of us don’t really drink at all. I used to love a black and tan or a good margarita once in a great while, but 99% of the time, I just have no taste for it, which is exactly what my mother used to say. I’m not at all biased against it, except drunk driving, and my husband and sons like to have a beer or two, or maybe a whiskey or glass of wine, but I just don’t want it. I’m grateful I’m not like my two sisters, that’s for sure, but at the same time, I feel very sorry for them.
