My dad loved film scores, so I spent my childhood full of them. One day I found my late father in tears listening to John Barry and thought he was just ‘emotional’. Years later I found myself doing the same thing. His music is quite simply beautiful.

I was never a diehard James Bond fan but I enjoyed the Connery ones very much, especially Goldfinger. John Barry's music was, of course, part and parcel of the Bond movie experience when I was in my teens. His score for "You Only Live Twice" was, possibly, along with the earlier "Ipcress File", the beginning of my interest in Barry as a composer of real calibre. It remains my favourite Bond Score. That main theme is absolutely gorgeous : romantic, majestic even, and so damned memorable. I liked the Nancy Sinatra recording very much and it's nice to see the studio shot of her with the composer. I assume he got on with her much better than he did with Streisand.........

Memories. I remember queuing outside Twickenham Odeon at the age of 8 with my parents to see this. This theme is always my favourite.

Just having a listen to the Nancy Sinatra recording (from CTS Studios, London, May 1967). As good as I remember. What I didn't realise was that she was, it seems, very nervous during the session (apparent from her expression in the photograph). The recording took something like 30 takes and much post-editing......but the finished product was excellent.
