John Bruton is to be honoured with a state funeral in his native county Meath this Saturday.
The former Taoiseach, who led the Rainbow Coalition from 1994 to 1997, will be given state honours after a funeral at Saints Peter and Paul's Church in his native Dunboyne.
Formal business in the Dáil was suspended for the day as a mark of respect, with deputies from all sides paying tribute to the TD of 35 years.
Fine Gael's Richard Bruton became emotional as he thanked those who had shown kindness to his older brother during his long illness.
