Who are Stephen & Jack? What’s the backstory here? Gosh, I’ve only seen snippets of this show on YT, but I love this song.

Stephen Trask is the songwriter/composer of the Hedwig and the Angry Inch songs. He actually provided the singing voice for Tommy Gnosis in the movie adaptation as well. Jack was the bassist for their band at the time and John's boyfriend. He was an alcoholic and recovering, but died from complications due to his alcoholism. If I recall correctly from John's intro, Stephen and John performed it for Jack while he was in recovery/rehab.
