John Cambell was amazing, he will be missed, RIP John. One Believer is a awesome CD. He also had a glass eye, witch is pretty wicked and had wicked awesome sounding guitars, the 1934 steel guitar, and the Gibson acoustic with the stratocaster pick- up in it, it dosent even sound like a acoustic guitar, still you got to love that sound.

here's a quote from john that answers your question: "For slide, I use a 1934 National Steel Duolian with a $50 Barcus Berry pickup superglued to the top. I have another National that I tune to open Gb, and one to open Db. I also have a solidbody National Resophonic, which has a resonator cone that goes through from front to back with a Barcus Berry and a Danelectro pickup on it. My strings are D'Addario, generally a .13 for top E, then .16, 1 .24 wound G, a .32, .442 and a .52 bottom E."

He was quite eloquent speaking of the blues, and the way it transforms the people who play it. he had "no choice."

Kiwi: you seem to have enough information at your disposal to put together a fairly interesting biography of Campbell. You might want to work on something like that.

Dear kiwibluesman, the guy interviewing John in this video is me. It was such a great encounter meeting with John and it was so sad he died so soon after he visited us in Milan for a showcase at Shocking Club broadcated by Video Music, the tv channel I used to work at that time. I tried to find everywhere the whole video from where you took this little interview fragment but I was not succesful: Could you maybe help me? ;)

It was sad about John. My understanding is that John immersed himself in Blues while he was recovering from a drag racing accident during his mid teens. He ended up with a mass of stitches in his face, and in later life still suffered pain from the injuries, and in some way this may have contributed to his early passing. I'm happy to be corrected if anyone knows any different. He seems like a kind gentleman despite the stage image he projected.
